OVERNIGHT:

The 84-year-old woman who hit Reese Witherspoon with her car last week reportedly feels "awful" about the situation, and hasn't gotten behind the wheel since. A family member told TMZ that the woman thinks the corner on which the accident took place is particularly dangerous because there's a big tree blocking the line of vision for drivers. The citation she subsequently received calls for her to retake her driving test and appear in court on October 7th.

Celebrity Spotlight

Lady Antebellum debuts their “We Owned the Night” video on CMT and CMT.com today. The trio’s Dave Haywood says the video helps set the tone for what fans will hear on the album. “We shot the video for ‘We Owned the Night’ in Nashville and tried to make it a big party night. Again, our theme with that song is kinda creating that special night that you feel on top of the world. So, we tried to create a video to capture that feeling of being on top of the world.” CMT’s version of the new video is “optimized” so that when you use the Shazam app on your smart phone to tag the song, you’ll have the opportunity to enter to win a trip to attend a private performance by the band. Lady Antebellum’s album, Own the Night is scheduled for release on Tuesday.

MAN CAVE

Former World Series MVP Manny Ramirez was arrested and charged with battery Monday after a domestic dispute at his South Florida home, police said.
Ramirez, 39, and his wife were arguing in their bedroom when he slapped her face, causing her to hit her head on their bed's headboard, according to a police report. She told the deputy she was afraid the situation would escalate and called police.
Ramirez denied hitting his wife, according to the report, telling a deputy "he grabbed his wife by the shoulders and when he shrugged her, she hit her head."
Ramirez's wife, Juliana, had red swelling on her face and a small bruise on the back of her head, the police report said. She did not want medical treatment.
Ramirez retired in April from the Tampa Bay Rays after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Rather than face a 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy, the 12-time All-Star left the game.

E-Mail “Inbox”

Good morning Don my name is Kevin and I’m in desperate need for some advice. I don’t have much experience with picking up girls and getting phone numbers because I haven’t dated much so I’m not sure if I made a big mistake last night.

I met a girl at bar while watching football and at the end of the night she gave me her number. I didn’t know when to call but really liked her so I called her when I got home. She never answered so hung up on her voicemail. Then I called back an hour later when I figured out what I wanted to say on her voicemail but went too long on it. So I called her back again to apologize and tell her to call me.

Do you think I scared her away? How long should I have waited to call her?

Signed,
Kevin

Kevin, I think you blew it, however, you could recover, maybe. Wait a few days then call and say, hey_say he name_, this is Kevin, here’s my number, if you want to watch some football with me and some friends, give me a call. Take care. If she calls back, great. If she doesn’t, move on dude.
Good Luck
Oh, my rule of thumb is to wait ate least 24 hours before I call a girl under those circumstances.

HEALTH MOMENT

Children who watched just nine minutes of a fast-paced, high-action cartoon performed worse on routine tests of attention and other skills compared to children who drew pictures or watched slower-paced educational cartoons, according to new research.
The 4-year-olds who viewed the fast-paced cartoon, then took the tests, ''were handicapped in their readiness for learning," says researcher Angeline Lillard, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
"The specific tests that we gave involve following rules, remembering what they had been told, delaying gratification, and problem solving," Lillard said. Viewers of the fast-paced cartoon did the worst on the tests.
The tests were given right after the drawing or viewing, she says. She calls the effect ''immediate and strong.'' However, she can't say how long the effect might last.
Based on her study, however, DR Lillard said,"I would say parents shouldn't be letting their kids watch these shows in the van on the way to school."
The research is published in the journal Pediatrics.

2-1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar

To enhance the flavor of the cookies, mix the eggs, almond extract and cranberries in a bowl and let stand for 1 hour before adding to the recipe.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) The big American beers are getting shellacked, because people are switching to imports and craft beers. So while Bud Light and Budweiser are still the two most popular beers in America, Budweiser's on a new list of Eight Beers Americans Are No Longer Drinking. That's not exactly true, it's just that their sales are down . . . WAY down . . . along with some of the most famous names in American Beer, like Michelob, Milwaukee's Best, and Miller Genuine Draft.

#2.) 25-year-old Brian McCarthy won a $107 million Mega Millions jackpot in July, on a ticket he bought at a Herndon, Virginia supermarket. Last week, his secret was revealed: His father is Robert McCarthy, who earns $3.2 million a year as president of Marriott hotels. Brian was living at home and working at a Marriott supplier when he won. Since then, he's bought a BMW, golfed in Ireland, traveled to Alaska, and quit his job.
You know what they say, if you don’t play, you don’t win!

And I leave you with this thought…

"Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself, just as I can."
