Dierks Bentley sings about being at a bar and wanting to have a good time in his latest hit, "Am I The Only One," so it was only appropriate that that's where he chose to hold the song's Number One party. The celebration took place yesterday (Tuesday, September 27th) at a small Nashville bar called Losers.
Dierks tells us that "Am I The Only One" is as big a hit in concert as it has been on the charts. ["It's huge! It's a huge song. I mean, we've been starting the show off with 'Feel That Fire,' so it's like a big . . . I always try to come out swinging punches and it's a big show, and then that song comes in third. You really can't do that song too late cause it's called 'am I the only one that wants to have fun tonight.' You can't really close the show with that song. It's like meant to be up front in the show, but the energy that comes up even higher on that song comes in is palpable. It's been a great song for the live show, and it's a lot of fun. It really is. I actually wrote several verses to the song with Jim and J.R. but two only made the album, the radio edit, so in the live show I've been introducing some of the other verses that didn't make it, so it's been pretty fun."]

Daddy served in the Army and fought in the Korean War. There were some close calls but He made it home. Not long after he got back to the USA he married my Mother.
May 13, 1964 my mother was killed in a car wreck, leaving my little brother age 3, sister age 5 and myself age 10. My hero, Daddy, owned his own business, an auto body shop. We lived in the back of the shop. It was hard for Daddy to run a shop and three small children.
Different people offered to keep different ones of us. One actually said she would keep all three of us. My Daddy would not let us go. He worked and kept us. My mother's parents lived with us for a while but my Daddy came and ate lunch and took care of us. My Daddy not only worked, he played with us too. We played ball together and rode horses. We also went to church together. After my Mother's death Daddy came in our rooms at night and said prayers with us.
In a world of such selfishness I sincerely thank God for my Daddy!

Hey Don my name is Tommy and I listen to your show just about every morning. I’m emailing you because I’m obsessed with a girl who works at the T-mobile store near me and I keep breaking my iPhone so I can go back to the store and talk to her.
Were on a first name basis at this point and she smiles when I walk in but I don’t have the courage to ask her out. My friend told me I should tell her what I’ve been doing because she’ll find it flattering and definitely go out with me. I’m afraid she might think I’m a stalker, what do you think?
Signed,
Tommy
Tommy, you should ask her out. If she says no, then move on. It’s that simple my friend. Think about this, she may be wanting to ask you out but doesn’t want to be too forward. Man-Up dude, ask the girl out, she can only say no.
HEALTH MOMENT
Good news!
An inexpensive drug widely used in Central and Eastern Europe, but not approved in the United States, more than tripled smokers’ chances of successfully kicking the habit in a new study published in the latest New England Journal of Medicine.
The drug, Tabex (cytisine), has been used for smoking cessation in Russia and other Eastern European countries for more than four decades, but no rigorous studies have ever been done to prove its effectiveness.
Like the best-selling drug Chantix, marketed by Pfizer, it works by targeting a key nicotine receptor closely tied to tobacco cravings.
But the drug is much cheaper than Chantix and other smoking-cessation treatments, including nicotine replacement gums, patches, and inhalers, says researcher Robert West, PhD, of the University College London.
“In Russia, a (one-month) course of Tabex sells for about $6,” West tells WebMD. “This drug costs less than cigarettes, so it could potentially save a lot of lives in poorer countries where treatments to help people stop smoking have generally not been widely available.”

Say what you will about social media being a GIANT time waster . . . but it sure does make STALKING and COMPLAINING easier. A new survey by Nielsen found that 89% of people use social media to stalk . . . or as they put it, "find and maintain" old friends. And more than HALF of us, 51%, use it to complain and give negative feedback to products and businesses.
And I leave you with this thought…
"Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions."

Hello Don, My boyfriend and I moved in together. He discovered recently he has a gluten allergy and has become a gluten Nazi. He asked that we not have any food with gluten in the house.
That means no bread. NO BEER.
Is it fair to ask your significant other not to have the food everyone else in the world eats in your house?
He argues that it’s not his choice that he has a food allergy. Does his allergy to gluten mean I have to pretend I’m allergic to gluten?

Gina, that’s a tough one. I don’t condone live in arrangements between two people not married, and since you’re not married maybe you’ve run across something that makes you incompatible. So if your boyfriend is avid, and you don’t want to give up some things you love for him, then it sounds like you have some hard decisions to make. Read up on the subject and maybe find a compromise.

For years, men with enlarged prostate glands have turned to a supplement called saw palmetto to ease their trouble with urination and other symptoms.
Exactly how saw palmetto was thought to relieve the symptoms is unclear, but the fruit of saw palmetto dwarf palm tree remains widely used.
Now, a new study shows that this popular remedy is no more effective than a placebo or dummy pill at relieving these symptoms -- even in high doses.
The study is published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

The video for Jason Aldean’s latest single “Tattoos on This Town” premieres today on CMT and CMT.com. Filmed mostly in an aircraft hangar, Jason says the video has a slight patriotic feel to it, which ties into the video’s unexpected interpretation of the song. “I think it’s gonna be something that’s a little different from anything we’ve done before with the way we kinda of tie it all in at the end. It starts out probably like you would think, you know, showing a young couple together, ‘carving-their-names-in-a-tree’ kinda deal. And then from there, it kinda takes you on a different path, I think, than people that listen to the song think it’s going to.” Jason will bring his My Kinda Party tour to Nashville in February. Tickets for the Music City date sold out within minutes of going on sale this past Friday. Selling out in his hometown is an ‘unbelievable feeling,’ Jason said in a release.

Five thoughts on the playoff picture after the Rays and Red Sox both won in the American League, and the Cardinals won while the Braves lost in the National League.
1. This will be the eighth consecutive year at least one playoff entrant is decided on the regular season's final day. In each of the last seven seasons, at least one playoff spot remained up for grabs on the final day of the season, and that streak is now eight, as neither wild card has been clinched. The Rays and Red Sox are tied in the AL; the Braves and Cardinals are tied in the NL.
The great appeal of both March Madness and the NFL playoffs is their one-game, winner-take-all approach, and baseball could have a taste of that this week. In 2007, '08 and '09 baseball saw a 163rd game added to the regular season, twice to decide the AL Central and once to determine the NL wild card.
Such a scenario is in play this season, with a twist -- if the AL teams both win or both lose and the NL teams also remain in sync, then baseball could have two one-game playoffs on Thursday. It could be a preview of what's to come every year if a second wild card is added to each league, as has been rumored to happen in the upcoming new collective bargaining agreement.
In the AL, the Rangers' magic number to clinch the AL's second-best record -- which comes with the dual perks of having home field advantage in the ALDS and of avoiding the Yankees -- is one after they blew out the Angels 10-3 in a five-homer explosion. Texas would wrap it up Wednesday with a win or a Detroit loss.

Don I’m emailing you because I’m in a panic right now because I accidently broke my husband’s iPad when I knocked it off the kitchen table.
My best friend told me she always breaks bad news to her husband by cooking him a nice meal then sleeping with him, and then when he’s tired she breaks bad news to him. What do you think about this method? Should I sleep with my boyfriend if I always have bad news for him?
Signed,
Christy
Christy, as a guy, I can guarantee that strategy can never be a bad thing when married. However, I don’t condone that kind of thing before marriage. Try getting him a replacement, if that doesn’t work, make a nice dinner and break it to him gently over a nice meal.

Make that colon cancer chance history.
A new study suggests fruits and vegetables may help protect different parts of the colon against cancer.
Broccoli and cauliflower helped one part of the colon more, while carrots and apples helped in another part.
Australian researchers have found a link between different types of fruits and vegetables and cancer risk in different parts of the colon. Specifically, the study found that the risk of cancer in the part of the large bowel that runs up the right side of the abdomen and across was not associated with total combined intake of fruits and vegetables or total intake of either one. However, the family of vegetables that includes cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower was linked to a lower risk of cancer in that part of the colon.
Why fruits and vegetables would affect various parts of the colon differently is not known, the study researchers write.
They called for more studies that follow larger numbers of people since the findings of this study only show an association, and do not prove cause and effect.

People are trying to cut back to make ends meet in the tough economy, but according to a new study, we still like to splurge. Americans are buying less fertilizer, flashlights, batteries, shoe polish, car wax, and socks.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Charlene Peoples
My sister, Charlene, fought the battle of ovarian cancer. She subjected her body to treatments and pain that no human should suffer. She never lost her will to live, or more importantly her will to love! Her poor body gave out, but her spirit lives on! She was the most courageous and peaceful loving soul I have ever met. We have all learned something from her and are grateful!

MAN CAVE

But while our clothes, cars, and yards are paying the price, we're not willing to give up booze and dessert. Cheesecake sales are up 22% and premixed cocktails are up 24%.
What a pain killer!

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Janci Armstrong.
My hero is my 17 year-old niece. I am 42 years old. I was not able to have children, so she is a very prominent person in my life, as my sister has allowed me to be a part of their lives and witness Janci's life. Janci is the person that I wish I had become. At a young age she portrayed grace, sincerity, and accomplishment. She is the girl in school that chooses to be friends with everyone, leaving no one excluded. She is compassionate and loving and removes herself from groups of children who gossip about others. She takes her time during the week and weekends to be involved with charity organizations. She is the child that helps children in school with physical challenges. She is 17 years old, a senior in high school and has never received anything less than an A on her report card. She is determined, loving and the most compassionate person that I have ever known. I cannot be 17 years old again, but I have returned to college to complete my degree and although I did not achieve straight A's in school, I am now a college student with a 3.9 GPA. She has inspired me as a middle-aged woman to be the best that I can be! I am so very grateful that I am able to be a part of her life and watch her develop into a beautiful woman. Tony Romo had no choice. He had to play, broken rib and all.
His new bride wouldn't have tolerated anything less.
"She said, `Are you kidding? You're playing. I can't have a weak husband lying around the house here,"' Romo said - smiling and wincing after leading the Dallas Cowboys to an 18-16 victory over the Washington Redskins on Monday night.
Romo had a mostly forgettable night except for the fact Dallas won.
He was hurting so much he needed two pain-killing injections. His center had a tendency to snap the ball too soon or to the wrong spot. And he couldn't get into the end zone no matter what, not even with a first down on the 2-yard line.
Yet he set up Dan Bailey for six field goal tries, and the rookie made them all, including a go-ahead 40-yarder with 1:52 left.

He said that all guy’s pee in the shower which may be true but I didn’t think they’d admit this. Is it true, do all guys pee in the shower and if so how do I get him to stop?

HEALTH MOMENT
Shocking news!
Hair loss may not just be a matter of age or unlucky genes.
Preliminary findings from new studies of male and female identical twins suggest that a broad range of lifestyle factors, including stress, smoking, heavy drinking, and sun exposure, may also foil the follicles.
That appeared to be especially true for women. One study found that wives who lost a spouse to death or divorce were at highest risk of hair loss at the midline, which leads to a widening part.
In men, genes seemed to be the biggest predictor of balding, though smoking, drinking, stress, and sun exposure also factored in.
Although that may sound discouraging, experts say the research comes with a silver lining: Adopting healthier habits and controlling stress can sometimes help hair come back.
“Part of it is to manage what you can,” says Doris Day, MD, a dermatologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City who was not involved in the research. “The sooner you address it, the better your chances of having recovery.”

I love this idea out of a small town in Turkey. They've put MOTION SENSORS inside their town morgue that can detect even a slight bit of movement. That way, if someone was pronounced dead but wakes up in the morgue, the sensors will go off and someone can rescue them. It's also early detection in case of a zombie uprising, which I like as well.
And I leave you with this thought…

Toby Keith wasn’t prepared to include “Made in America” on his forthcoming album Clancy’s Tavern, but after playing it for his label team, they decided the time was right for the smash song to be released. “I didn’t know if it was a single or not, and the second we recorded it, everybody in the studio were calling people telling them to drop by and hear this song. I thought we wrote a good song, but I didn’t know it was this powerful. No matter how big the deficit, no matter which opponent, Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buffalo Bills are proving they're not the same old NFL pushovers.
One week it's rallying to beat Oakland, the next it's storming back to conquer an even bigger nemesis: AFC East rival New England.
Rian Lindell made a 28-yard field goal as time ran out to seal a 34-31 win over the Patriots on Sunday after the Bills erased a 21-0 second-quarter deficit. The win has Buffalo - a team which hasn't reached the playoffs in 11 seasons - off to a 3-0 start and sitting alone on top of the division.
It's early, sure, but maybe it's time to start Bill-ieving.

After two days of testimony on what the FDA should do about troubled long-term safety studies of silicone-gel breast implants, agency officials said the studies would continue.
"The current post-approval studies will continue," said William Maisel, MD, MPH, chief scientist in the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, in remarks after the meeting. "The FDA is committed to seeing them completed and making sure the follow-up rates improve."
The safety studies in question, of nearly 100,000 women with breast implants, which the FDA said were the largest ever required of manufacturers after their devices were marketed to the public, have lost track of up to 79% of the women they enrolled just three years into planned 10-year efforts.
As a result, the studies had lost the ability to find rare complications, including connective tissue diseases, that they were designed to look for. There has been shown to be no relationship between silicone breast implants and connective tissue disorders, which was the main reason these studies were agreed to.

And, I guess with the timing of what’s gone on in the world, I guess it struck a nerve with America.” Currently, Toby is crossing the country on his Locked & Loaded Tour, with stops in St. Louis and Chicago this weekend.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Lillie Menzies
My Mom is my hero! She is always there for me and my family, she raised me to be a loving caring person. When I am hurting or need advice she is always there with sensible and practical advice, she is my prayer partner and without her in my life I would have been lost so many times. Teach your children to love and be a real friend to them! Young people really need our help more than ever to learn not to follow the "crowd" and be mean and spiteful. Respect, honor, loyalty and honesty really need to be shown these days more than ever.

Jennifer, I think that time is your friend. Give it time, but don’t give all of yourself until you know he is for real. Be friends with his friends, go to places he goes, and watch how he behaves in challenging situations. That should tell you what you need to know.

My hero is a hero for several different reasons. When I met him I was lost. I just lost my father to lung cancer and I was taking care of my three kids and my dad's mother whom was 82 yrs old, and not to mention her husband also. I started talking to a soldier in Iraq. I needed someone to talk to. He became my inspiration, my best friend, my focus. Talking to him made me want to be a better person. I came out of the darkness because of him. He came home and I had found him an apartment. I was scared to meet him face to face and say thank you. I had no reason to be scared. We have been together for almost four years now and married too. I thank God all the time for him. We have a wonderful life together now. He has inspired me to sketch and paint, to finish my education, he has provided me and my children with a wonderful life. Not to mention he has been a soldier for the Army for almost 11 yrs now. He has been deployed 4 times. He teaches classes and is a very hard worker. So there you have it, that is my hero.

Hey Don, hope you had a great weekend. I’m emailing for your opinion and possibly some advice. I’ve been living with my girlfriend for 6 months and we haven’t fooled around in 2 months, she hasn’t even seemed interested.
I never though I’d have a dry spell when I was in a relationship. Do you think this is just a sign that the relationship is going to end soon or is this just what happens when you live with someone?

HEALTH MOMENT
Ever wonder why some people immediately see the bright side of just about any situation and seem to make friends wherever they go?
Turns out, it may be in their genes. The findings appear online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers have zeroed in on a possible genetic basis for optimism, self-esteem, and mastery (the belief that you have control over your own life and destiny). It’s rooted in the hormone oxytocin, also known as the love or cuddle hormone. Oxytocin is known to be plentiful in breastfeeding women and is released by men and women during relations.
A little chunk of genetic material on the oxytocin receptor gene may influence these personality traits. Exactly how the gene affects the release of oxytocin is not fully understood. But at least, now you know.

“King George Strait” is back on top of the country charts with his 24th #1 album. Here for a Good Time, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and landed at #3 on the Top 200 chart this week. Though he thought about hanging up his songwriting hat, George admits he definitely had a good time writing the tune with his son Bubba and Dean Dillon. “’Here for a Good Time was an idea that my son had had, and Dean, he’s going like, ‘Well, Bubba what have you got today?’ And he goes, ‘Well, I got this ‘I’m not here for a long time, but I’m here for a good time idea. Should we write it as a ballad? Or is it serious?’ We decided it was a more fun idea than a more serious, so we wrote it that way.” George recently announced a 2012 tour with fellow country star Martina McBride to kickoff in January.

He's my father, the one I love and the one I look up to everyday. I'm 19 years old and just graduated high school, where now I know my life is just about to begin. Even though my Dad is in the U.S. Army and can't always be there for me, I know he loves me and would do anything for me. My father has been in the Army for 20+ years and has become a professional racquetball player on the side. He's very successful, overcome many challenges, accomplished various achievements, and made some good decisions in the past.
He inspires me to never give up and really shows me what dedication is. I admire him for what he's done for himself and for other people in the family. I realize how much he has accomplished in his life, he inspires me to be just like him. He gives me determination to never give up, regardless what kind of things in life are thrown at you. I look at him as my noble father and my hero.

I have a question for you Don.
Should we just stay away from used up single moms?
Personally, I'm not too thrilled about the idea of being a sucker who provides for a woman and another man’s children. I just find it ironic that a lot of these women who wouldn't give me the time of day in high school and college, are now older, their beauty starts to fade, all the "hot" guys and bad boys don't want them anymore, and she suddenly realizes she needs a job to support another man’s children. NOW she's ready to "mature" and "settle down" with the "nice guy" to mooch off him.
Too bad most of these men don't realize and/or don't care that they're being played. I just ended a relationship with a single mom after I had my fun with her. I led her to believe that we were "serious" just to get what I wanted from her.
Does that make me a jerk?
Signed,
Ralph
Ralph, yes, you are a JERK, and what’s more, you need counseling. Get some help Dude, right away!
HEALTH MOMENT
Eating lots of white-fleshed fruit such as apples and pears may significantly reduce the risk of stroke.
In a new study, Dutch researchers set out to determine a possible link between stroke risk and eating fruits and vegetables of various colors. They took a look at self-reported information from 20,069 people between ages 20 and 65 of what they ate over a one-year period.
All of the people had no previous diagnosed heart disease or stroke at the start of the study.
During the 10 years of follow-up, 233 people had strokes. The researchers say the risk of stroke was 52% lower for people who ate a lot of white-fleshed fruits and vegetables, compared to those who didn’t.
I guess an apple a day does keep the doctor away.

In a new study of how people entertain themselves in the car, 64% said they mostly listen to AM or FM radio, making it the CLEAR number one pick. CD players came in second at 21%. And everything else . . . from iPods and satellite radio to Pandora and eight-tracks . . . accounted for 15%.
#2.) The people at Guinness World Records have revealed some of the new HUMAN ODDITIES in their upcoming edition. They include a woman with a 3.8-inch tongue that extends at least an inch below her chin . . . an 8-foot-3 man . . . a guy with a 7-foot-9 beard . . . and a woman with the world's largest AFRO at a 4-foot-4 circumference
#3.) Well THIS explains why the world smells so bad. A JARRING new survey has found that 21% of men admit they NEVER wear deodorant or body spray or anything. The survey also found that 21% of men don't use shampoo . . . not necessarily the same 21% who don't use deodorant but we're guessing there's some overlap there.
And I leave you with this thought…
"Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries."

Riddle Me This
Four cars come to a four way stop, all coming from a different direction. They can't decide who got there first, so they all go forward at the same time. They do not crash into each other, but all four cars go. How is this possible?
They all made right-hand turns!
Celebrity Spotlight

HOMETOWN HERO’S
Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Martin Kovacs
With Love Dad.

MAN CAVE
Justin Rose was trying not to lose the BMW Championship until he decided to play like he wanted to win.
Rose already was feeling the pressure from watching a five-shot lead over John Senden shrink to one. He hit another mediocre shot that came up short of the 17th green, and while he faced a relatively simple chip, Rose thought about using his putter because it would eliminate any chance of a mistake.
Rose chipped in for birdie to restore his lead, then played the 18th without fear to close out an even-par 71 and a two-shot victory that sends him to the Tour Championship with a shot at the $10 million FedEx Cup prize.
E-Mail “Inbox”
