Celebrity Spotlight

Jake Owen will rock the stage at NASCAR’s Kansas 400 with a pre-show concert at Kansas Speedway on June 5th. Though Jake is expected to perform hits from his debut and sophomore albums Startin’ With Me and Easy Does It, the Florida-native has been known to take his never-before-heard, new material for a little “test-drive” to fire up the crowd and make sure his songs are ready for the road. “It’s kind of like a NASCAR race, you know. I mean, you wanna take your car out on the track and drive it before the race, you know what I mean? And make sure that it’s running right! And for me, as a songwriter or a guy that’s getting these songs, thank goodness—these outside songs from these writers—they’ve been so cool to allow me with my band to work ‘em up and go play ‘em live, and see if it’s working in our set.” Tickets to Jake’s show at the Kansas 400 are available at kansasspeedway.com. Jake will hit the road with Keith Urban’s Get Closer World Tour which kicks off June 16th in Biloxi, Mississippi.

This Is Nuts

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who has been accused of being poorly informed, is facing new calls for his resignation after he was asked in the Senate which nations pose the greatest mortal threat to the U.S. Instead of Iran or North Korea, he named America's Cold War-era rivals, Russia and China. The White House later said Clapper was thinking of the nations with the most nukes.

* The biggest threat we currently face from China is that they'll repossess us.

HEALTH MOMENT

Soy foods and supplements probably don't help control high blood sugar, according to a new report.
Some clinical trials have linked soy to better blood sugar control. But for the new study, researchers combined the results of two dozen previous trials and found that overall, boosting soy intake did not appear to improve people's blood sugar levels.
There was some evidence of a benefit from soy foods like tofu, however, as opposed to soy supplements.
Nine of the trials studied soy-based foods. In those, people with more of these foods in their diet had a small improvement in blood sugar levels - on average, a decrease of about 4 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) of blood - compared to those who didn't eat many soy foods, the researchers report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
But it's too early to say tofu can aid blood sugar control in people with diabetes or "pre-diabetes," according to Dr. Suzanne C. Ho and colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The studies on soy foods had weaknesses in their design, the researchers note. And, they say, it's hard to separate the possible effects of soy from the other foods in participants' diets.
For now, it seems the best bet is to stick with the general advice on managing or preventing diabetes: get regular exercise, watch your calories, and focus on a generally healthy diet, with plenty of fruits and vegetables, fiber-rich grains and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

A survey in Britain by Esure insurance found that people are careless about their keys. People over 55 are especially trusting about leaving extra keys to their homes with friends. Ten percent of respondents don't bother to change their locks after they lose their keys. One in five homes has a key hidden within 10 feet of the front door, usually under a rock, flower pot or door mat. And the average Briton carries nine keys on his or her key ring, and has no idea what at least two or them are for. That means there are over 100 million mystery keys in the UK, weighing more than 1,000 tons.

* Men never throw away keys because someday, they might actually remember what they're for.

And I leave you with this thought.

"Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart ...
Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens."
