Brad Pitt may play one of the brightest baseball minds in Moneyball -- but he has little personal experience with the subject matter. The actor told Sports Illustrated, "It's shameful how little I know about baseball . . . I'm amazed they let me do this movie." The 47-year-old -- who plays Billy Beane in the new film -- added, "Baseball and I didn't get along that well. I wrestled one year [in high school]. I dove one year. Everything but baseball." He said he was drawn to the role not because of the sport, but because "I'm a sucker for the underdog story."

Celebrity Spotlight

Reba will accept the Career Achievement Award at this year’s ACM Honors next week in Nashville. The award is presented to an artist that has helped promote country music through their work. Reba is thrilled to be receiving the honor, but admits that when she first heard the news, she wasn’t sure what the award was all about. “They said, ‘Well you…’ As a matter of fact somebody congratulated me on it…oh, Melissa Peterman. She texted me and she said, ‘Congratulations!’ I said, ‘What for?’ And she said, ‘Well you got the Career Achievement Award.’ I said, ‘What’s that for?’ and she said, ‘Well I don’t know, but they’re all tweeting about it. And so I really didn’t understand what it was, except, I guess an achievement for my career, so that was great!” Reba will receive her honor Monday at the ceremony that will also recognize Taylor Swift with the Jim Reeves International Award and Garth Brooks with the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Christopher Wilson
My hero is a hero for several different reasons. When I met him I was lost. I just lost my father to lung cancer and I was taking care of my three kids and my dad's mother whom was 82 yrs old, and not to mention her husband also. I started talking to a soldier in Iraq. I needed someone to talk to. He became my inspiration, my best friend, my focus. Talking to him made me want to be a better person. I came out of the darkness because of him. He came home and I had found him an apartment. I was scared to meet him face to face and say thank you. I had no reason to be scared. We have been together for almost four years now and married too. I thank God all the time for him. We have a wonderful life together now. He has inspired me to sketch and paint, to finish my education, he has provided me and my children with a wonderful life. Not to mention he has been a soldier for the Army for almost 11 yrs now. He has been deployed 4 times. He teaches classes and is a very hard worker. So there you have it, that is my hero.

MAN CAVE

Justin Rose was trying not to lose the BMW Championship until he decided to play like he wanted to win.
Rose already was feeling the pressure from watching a five-shot lead over John Senden shrink to one. He hit another mediocre shot that came up short of the 17th green, and while he faced a relatively simple chip, Rose thought about using his putter because it would eliminate any chance of a mistake.
Rose chipped in for birdie to restore his lead, then played the 18th without fear to close out an even-par 71 and a two-shot victory that sends him to the Tour Championship with a shot at the $10 million FedEx Cup prize.

E-Mail “Inbox”

Hey Don, hope you had a great weekend. I’m emailing for your opinion and possibly some advice. I’ve been living with my girlfriend for 6 months and we haven’t fooled around in 2 months, she hasn’t even seemed interested.

I never though I’d have a dry spell when I was in a relationship. Do you think this is just a sign that the relationship is going to end soon or is this just what happens when you live with someone?

Signed,
Len

Len, it’s hard to say, but I would sit down with my lady and talk to her about it. The problem could be totally unrelated to you think. I mean, it’s not always about you dude!

HEALTH MOMENT

Ever wonder why some people immediately see the bright side of just about any situation and seem to make friends wherever they go?
Turns out, it may be in their genes. The findings appear online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers have zeroed in on a possible genetic basis for optimism, self-esteem, and mastery (the belief that you have control over your own life and destiny). It’s rooted in the hormone oxytocin, also known as the love or cuddle hormone. Oxytocin is known to be plentiful in breastfeeding women and is released by men and women during relations.
A little chunk of genetic material on the oxytocin receptor gene may influence these personality traits. Exactly how the gene affects the release of oxytocin is not fully understood. But at least, now you know.

WHAT’S FOR DINNER

Cream Cheese Mints

INGREDIENTS:

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
2 pounds powdered sugar
8 drops flavoring (spearmint, peppermint, lemon or butter rum)
8 drops food color

TO PREPARE:

Knead sugar and cream cheese to form ball. Divide dough into fourths. Work with 1/4 at a time. Wrap remaining dough in foil to prevent drying. Add 2 drops flavoring and 2 drops coloring to the portion you are working with. Press into molds or use a super shooter. Let mints set while mixing and molding remaining fourths. Store in a tightly covered tin, separating the layers with waxed paper. These will keep indefinitely.

NOTE: Easy and wonderful.

YIELDS: 200 mints

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) This is pretty amazing. According to the Justice Department, in 2010, violent crime in the U.S. dropped an unbelievable 13%. Crime has dropped pretty steadily over the past several years . . . but the 2010 drop is THREE TIMES bigger than usual. Since 1993, violent crimes in this country are down 70%.

#2.) Researchers found that the key to success in business, sports, and on the battlefield . . . is having no idea how likely you are to fail. Researchers at UC San Diego and the University of Edinburgh found that people who are overconfident and deluded about their abilities are more likely to succeed than people who are under-confident or people who have an accurate idea of their abilities.

#3.) I can't believe "Weekend At Bernie's" just became a reality. A few weeks ago, in Denver, two guys found their friend dead in his house . . . and carted him around town, using his ATM card to pay for food, drinks, and a STRIP CLUB tab. The police figured it out and the guys are facing several charges, including abusing a corpse. The friend's cause of death hasn't been determined yet.
What a couple of deadbeats!

And I leave you with this thought…

"It is astonishing how short a time it takes for very wonderful things to happen."
