Riddle Me This

I have a heart that never beats,
I have a home but I never sleep.
I can take a mans house and build anothers,
And I love to play games with my many brothers.
I am a king among fools.
Who am I?

The King of Hearts in a deck of cards.

Celebrity Spotlight

George Strait’s brand new album Here for a Good Time is in stores today. With 39 studio albums and 89 singles under his belt buckle, the legend has solidified his place in country music history. Rather than rest easy in the enormous success of his career thus far, “King George” headed back into the studio for more, thanks to the urging of his son Bubba, who co-wrote the album’s 11 tracks. “It was mainly Bubba’s influence. He decided that he wanted to write and he wanted to get me involved in it. And so, I kind of reluctantly did it at first, but found I really enjoyed doing it again.” You can catch George on tour with Martina McBride beginning January 2012.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Vangie Striker.
My Mother is my hero. As a child, she and her family worked as migrant farm workers. My mother worked hard to make a better life for herself and her family. She raised four children with lots of love and support and taught us all to be compassionate by example.

MAN CAVE

The Southeastern Conference cleared the way for Texas A&M to join its ranks - with a wrinkle. Baylor is considering suing if the Aggies leave the Big 12.
If and when the legal issues are resolved, the SEC will make the Aggies the league's 13th team to complete a courtship Texas A&M initiated in July. The potential union announced Wednesday could lead to a massive realignment of the college football landscape, a significant push toward 16-team super conferences.

E-Mail “Inbox”

Don, have you seen this show “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” on TLC? Some of the stories about women not knowing they were pregnant until going into labor are simply amazing, but some should be crying helps to get in shape.

It makes me wonder how a woman can not know she’s pregnant, as a woman I think I would know. Do you know any woman who didn’t know she was pregnant till she went into labor?

I think it’s safe to say that if you didn’t know you were pregnant you’re probably overweight. What do you think of the show?

Signed,
Chelsea

Common Chelsea, I’m a guy, I don’t watch those kinds of shows. I do have to agree with you though, seems pretty far fetched that you could be pregnant and not know it. Although I remember a time when I went fishing and didn’t know I caught a fish on my line. Does that count?

HEALTH MOMENT

"A drink a day keeps disease away" may be the new motto for middle-age women hoping to age gracefully.
A new study shows women who drank the equivalent of a beer or small glass of wine each day were less likely to develop chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes as they got older compared to nondrinkers or those who drink four or more drinks at one time.
In the study, researchers looked at the effects of drinking alcohol at midlife on the risk of diseases commonly associated with aging in a group of 13,894 women enrolled in the Nurses' Health Study.
The women filled out questionnaires about what they ate and drank at midlife, about age 58. Researchers then analyzed health status information collected after the women turned 70.
After taking into account other factors that might affect health and disease risk, like smoking, researchers found women who drank light or moderate amounts of alcohol were less likely to develop chronic diseases as they aged.
For example, compared to nondrinkers, women who drank up to one alcoholic drink per day were 20% more likely to be disease-free at age 70 than nondrinkers.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) NO state fair innovates fried food like the Texas State Fair. The headlining fried food at this year's fair is . . . DEEP-FRIED BUBBLEGUM. It's a marshmallow covered in pink bubblegum extract, then deep-fried, and covered in frosting and Chiclets. The Texas State Fair opens at the end of the month.

#2.) Just a reminder: This Sunday, September 11th, is GRANDPARENTS DAY. And . . . um . . . not a day where people will be commemorating anything else. So make sure to get your grandparents a present.

#3.) Anti-American sentiment is DEAD. Everyone wants to be us again. In a new worldwide poll, America was named the COOLEST COUNTRY in the world. We beat out Brazil, Spain, and Italy. Belgium was ranked the least-cool country in the world, just below Poland, Turkey, and Canada.
All I can say is, SWEET!!!

And I leave you with this thought…

"Any one of us can be a rainbow in somebody's clouds."
