Celebrity Spotlight

Dierks Bentley is at #1 this week on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart with his single, “Am I the Only One”. Dierks co-wrote the song with some buddies about the weak excuses his friends have given him for not being able to go out on the town. Dierks says the lyrics are pretty true to life, except for the line about American Idol. “If one of my friends turned me down for American Idol on a Friday night, we’d definitely have to exchange some words. Nothing wrong with American Idol, but you can TiVo that show and watch it anytime you want. When it’s Friday night, it’s time to go out and have a good time.” “Am I the Only One” is Dierks’ 8th #1 hit and the first single from his forthcoming album, due out in early 2012.
• RELATED NEWS: Dierks recently announced the first leg of his new Country & Cold Cans Tour, set to kick off October 6th in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Jerrod Niemann and the Eli Young Band are scheduled to open for Dierks on the tour.

Staff in my hand, stone in my throat.
What am I?

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Tara Snider
My cousin Tara is my hero. She has brain cancer... and three young children. And also an alcoholic and abusive husband. Somehow, she has pushed through all this and has been the most amazing cousin I could ask for. I love her with all my heart and I want to be just like her when I grow up.

MAN CAVE

The NCAA said it wanted to send a clear message by slapping Bruce Pearl with a three-year show-cause penalty: Coaches are responsible for their programs.
The sanctions announced Wednesday make it harder for the former Tennessee men's basketball coach to get another college job anytime soon. Pearl is prohibited from recruiting during the next three years, and a school would have to convince the NCAA to have that penalty removed if it hired him.

Mike Flanagan, a former Cy Young winner and part of the Baltimore Orioles' 1983 World Series championship team, has died. He was 59.
Authorities found a body outside Flanagan's home in Monkton, Md., on Wednesday afternoon. Hours later, the Orioles confirmed that Flanagan -- who served the team as a pitcher, front office executive and television broadcaster -- was dead. No word on the cause of death.

E-Mail “Inbox”

I just finished my last Lamaze class. My husband Josh doesn’t want me to get an epidural. Does he get a vote on such issues?

What do you think Don?

Signed,
Denise

Wow Denise, I’m not really an expert on such things, but my wife had an epidural. These days it’s a very safe procedure. At the same time it allows for the comfort of the mother while still providing you with the experience of natural child birth. Provide you husband with the materials he needs to make an educated decision about the issue in his of mind. However, I think perhaps you have the final say, just humor him for a while until he comes around. Good Luck

HEALTH MOMENT

Come to find out, marriage is super important.
People who are married and who undergo heart bypass surgery are more than twice as likely as their unmarried counterparts to be alive after 15 years, a new study indicates.
University of Rochester researchers tracked 225 people who had undergone bypass surgery between 1987 and 1990, asking them about their marital status at the time of surgery and to rate their marital satisfaction a year after their operations.
They found that marital satisfaction plays an important role in long-term survival after heart bypass surgery.
The effect of marital satisfaction was found to differ between men and women.
Fifteen years after bypass surgery, 83% of wives deemed happily married were still alive, compared to 28% of women in unhappy marriages and 27% of unmarried women, the study shows.
Among men, 83% of happily married husbands were alive 15 years after bypass surgery, compared to 60% of men in less-than-satisfying marriages and 36% of unmarried men.
"There is something in a good relationship that helps people stay on track,"
Bottom-line, happiness in marriage could keep you alive longer after bypass surgery, That’s all I need to know.

WHAT’S FOR DINNER

Dutch Baby
INGREDIENTS:

4 Tablespoons butter, melted
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup milk
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
Powdered sugar
1/2 cup almonds, toasted (Optional)
NOTE: This is a cross between an omelet and a souffle. It puffs during baking and falls when served. Great with coffee and crisp bacon.

TO PREPARE:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Paint the sides and bottom of a cold 8 inch iron skillet with the melted butter. Place skillet in refrigerator. Beat eggs in bowl with mixer on medium speed. Gradually add flour and salt. Add milk and blend thoroughly. Pour the batter into the cold, buttered skillet and bake in the preheated oven until it forms a brown crust, approximately 20 minutes. Mix the lemon juice with the remaining 2 Tablespoons of melted butter. Pour over the cooked batter and sprinkle with powdered sugar and toasted almonds, if desired.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) This kid is either going to want to become a doctor, or be scared of childbirth FOREVER. On Saturday morning in British Columbia, a woman went into sudden labor in her house, and the only person around to deliver the baby was her 12-YEAR-OLD SON. And he did it. He pulled out his new brother by the shoulders, and even cut the umbilical cord. His mom and baby brother are both doing well.

#2.) ART DONOVAN is an NFL hall-of-famer, who won a title in 1958 with the Baltimore Colts. In 1977, his engraved championship ring was stolen in Japan. But now, 34 YEARS LATER, the police found someone trying to sell it for $20,000 on Craigslist. The seller bought it from a dealer and didn't know it was stolen, so he won't be charged. But at age 86, Donovan has been reunited with his ring.

#3.) It's a big day for every cheap guy out there who's thinking of proposing. In this economy, spending two or three months' salary on an engagement ring is OVER. In a new survey, two-thirds of men who recently bought rings say they spent about THREE WEEKS' SALARY. That's more like $3,000 for guys who bought rings, as opposed to $10,000. And more than half of the women surveyed thought the ring they got cost more than it did. What they don’t know won’t hurt em!

And I leave you with this thought…

In order to be a realist you must believe in miracles.
