Celebrity Spotlight

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery released his debut country music video this week. The video for his single, “I Love You This Big” features Scotty playing a show on stage outside in the country. He says the shoot was a lot of fun but there was one moment that caught him off guard. “Uh, the stage, I kinda broke the stage the first time I got on it and the wood came out from it. But, other than that, it was pretty steady, smooth sailing.” Thankfully, Scotty was OK and he wasn’t shaken by the mishap. You can see the finished product now on CMT and CMT.com!

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Erna Barry
My hero is my grandma. She has the unshaken ability to find the good in any person. She is an optimist when hell breaks loose and in any situation will do whatever she can to help a soul good or bad. There is not a dull day in her presence and is grateful for every second she lives, having grown up in Nazi Germany there is no down side to any day, but only blessings to learn from. I love my hero.

E-Mail “Inbox”

Hey Don, I started dating a teacher in June and the summer has been incredible. But now that the summer is coming to an end and with school starting soon she’s getting crazy.

It’s like everyday we have to do something to check off her summer bucket list. She seems really tense at night and has short moments of depression during the day, she told me it’s because she has to go back to work soon.

Is this common for all teachers to get this way? What can I do to make her calm down and ease her tension?

Signed,
Brad

Well Brad, my wife is a Teacher too. Yes, the closer the start of the school year the more the anxiety grows. Try to be supportive and be thankful that you are not a teacher. That’s hard work for little pay my friend.

MAN CAVE – Sports Highlights

Tour rookie Keegan Bradley, playing in his first major championship, won the PGA Championship. He dazzled with his shotmaking and his clutch putting in a tense playoff victory over Jason Dufner, and he won a following of new fans with his charismatic displays of emotion and gutty shots. Bradley just might be that new golf star America so badly needs.

NASCAR postponed the Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International because of rain.

HEALTH MOMENT

Have you noticed all the tattoo shops around town? Well here’s some news you may not be aware of.
Practices at some tattoo parlors may increase the risk for developing a type of skin infection that more typically occurs in people with compromised immune systems, a study shows.
Two reported cases of Mycobacterium skin infections in tattoo parlor customers mark the first time this type of skin infection has been linked to tattoos and tattooing.
The findings are published in Emerging Infectious Diseases.
The researchers suspect the infections developed because the tattoo parlor operator used tap water, not sterilized water, in a rinsing solution to dilute the ink for shading.
"Although infections attributable to water appear uncommon, we advise against using tap water for tattoo procedures," conclude study authors who were led by Meagan K. Kay of the CDC in King County, Wash.
It pays to ask questions prior to getting a tattoo. Not to say that tattoo’s are not cool, I have one myself, just be carful about whom you let tat your body.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) One of the oldest stereotypes EVER is that men don't like to ask for directions. Well . . . women don't really like to ask for them either. Turns out both genders really prefer to just get directions from their GPS.

#2.) Want to stop buying so many clothes? Just shop with people who are HOTTER than you. A new study found that when a woman tries on something in a store, she'll probably like it . . . unless she sees someone with a better body trying it on or wearing it. Then she won't be able to stop comparing herself to that person . . . and she'll hate it.
So just have a really hot chick go with you when your girl wants to go shopping, right?

#3.) When Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin went scuba diving last week in the Black Sea, he discovered two ancient Greek urns on the sea floor. The urns date back to the sixth century A.D. It was only his third time scuba diving. You know that was staged, and if you don’t believe that, I’ve got some beach front property to sell you in Arizona I’ll let go real cheap.

And I leave you with this thought…

"We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude."
