CELEBRITY GOSSIP:

Ricki Lake is engaged. The original Hairspray star made the announcement via Twitter, posting a picture of herself with fiance Christian Evans, along with the caption, "Thrilled to share some happy news with you. I'm engaged!" Lake, 42, has been dating Evans since last summer.

An apparently deranged man was detained after banging on the door of Sharon Stone's Hollywood Hills mansion. TMZ.com reported that the man was handcuffed and taken away after he banged at the actress's gate, claiming that he fathered a child with her and killed Osama bin Laden. Sharon was not home at the time, but her staff called police

Celebrity Spotlight

Zac Brown Band is celebrating another week at #1 on the Country Aircheck chart with the hit “Knee Deep” featuring Jimmy Buffett. The group has had a whirlwind summer of touring with Kenny Chesney’s Goin’ Coastal Tour. But, Zac says he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I feel more at home onstage than I do milling around, just having conversation with people. Music’s always been that kind of like—shelter—for me. I’d lose myself in the music, and so when I’m on the stage and behind a microphone away from everybody else, and away from everything, and trying to connect with those people, I feel more at home than I do anywhere.” Zac and Kenny will take the stage at New Meadowlands in New Jersey this weekend.

Riddle Me This

If you were running a race, and you passed the person in 2nd place, what place would you be in now?

You would be in 2nd. You thought first place, huh? Well, you passed the guy in second place, not first.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Erna Barry
My hero is my grandma. She has the unshaken ability to find the good in any person. She is an optimist when hell breaks loose and in any situation will do whatever she can to help a soul good or bad. There is not a dull day in her presence and is grateful for every second she lives, having grown up in Nazi Germany there is no down side to any day, but only blessings to learn from. I love my hero.

E-Mail “Inbox”

OMG Don you’ll never guess what happened to me this past weekend. On Friday current hairdresser gave me a really bad haircut, messing up the bangs so bad I’m going to look like a dork for at least 3 months.

I left telling myself I would never go back to her again. Well she must have realized how bad it was because she called me from the salon yesterday to apologize for the haircut asking me to give her one more chance. She said she was out of it and even though that’s not a good excuse that every hairdresser has a “Bad Day”.

I have to say I was impressed with the phone call but I’m not sure if I should take her back. What do you think should I give her another try since she called me?

Signed,
Katie

Katie, I would say YES, give her another chance. After all, this world is about building and maintaining relationships, and we all mess up from time to time. Some of us more often than others.

MAN CAVE

This was only Philly's exhibition opener, of course, so it's a bit early to be mapping out the parade route. But there has never been an Eagles season more hotly anticipated than this one, and this is where it started. Eagle’s 13 Ravens 6

Stricker missed a 10-foot birdie putt at his final hole Thursday, just a hair away from becoming the first player to shoot 62 in a major championship. He had no complaints, though, about settling for a 7-under score and the opening-round lead at Atlanta Athletic Club. For Woods, a miserable one.
Seemingly spending as much time in water and sand as he did on the green stuff, Woods returned to the major scene with a major thud - a 77 that was his worst round ever at the PGA.

HEALTH MOMENT

Here’s good news for Leukemia patients.
Two of three patients dying of chronic leukemia appear cured and a third is in partial remission after infusions of genetically engineered T cells.
The treatment success came in a pilot study that was only meant to find out whether the treatment was safe, and to determine the right dose to use in later studies. But the therapy worked vastly better than University of Pennsylvania researchers David L. Porter, MD, Carl H. June, MD, and colleagues had dared to hope.
"Our results were absolutely dramatic. It is tremendously exciting," Porter says. "These kinds of outcomes don't come around very often. We are really hopeful that we can now translate this into treatment for much larger numbers of patients and apply this technique to other diseases and to many more patients."

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) In a new survey, 75% of people say that when they leave a job these days, they HATE it and would never recommend the place to anyone. That's almost double the percentage who said that before the economy went down in 2008. The reason for this is that we now stay at jobs that make us unhappy for longer because we're afraid there's not another job if we leave . . . and that makes us more bitter.

#2.) In a new poll asking people for their earliest childhood memory, the most common theme is . . . PAIN AND TORTURE. 35% of people said a trip to the DENTIST is the first thing they remember. The rest of the top five are birthday party, vacation, first day of school, and a trip to the doctor. The average age of people's first memories was 4.3 years old.

#3.) Let's break down some gender stereotypes. In a new survey, only 1% of women say that COLOR is the most important reason to buy a car. The main reason is safety . . . then good mileage . . . style . . . good for the environment . . . and power. Color came in last place.
For Guy’s, we look to see if girls will get in the car!

And I leave you with this thought…

"Whatever you believe with emotion becomes reality. You always act in a manner consistent with your inner most beliefs and convictions."
