Celebrity Spotlight

Trace Adkins’ Proud To Be Here hits stores today. Though fans have grown to love the rowdy and slightly risqué humor in songs like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and “Hot Mama,” Trace says on this album, they’ll hear his softer side. (Audio) “You know this is what I do—I sing about the human condition—and all the shortcomings and faults and noble traits that go along with that. You know? It’s not all pretty. But it’s all real.” The deluxe edition of the new album features a hilarious duet with Blake Shelton called “If I Was A Woman.” Trace is on the road this summer, and will make stops in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York this week.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

Simply put, Hometown Hero’s are people who help others in some way.
Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Jacob Batchelder
My hero is my father. I am only 19 years old but for as long as I can remember, the strongest foundation in my life has been my dad. My father married my mother over 30 years ago and started out with as little as little can be but grew with her and later a family including 4 children. The home he made included a nice house, vehicles, education, love, and support. As a young adult I've learned how to trust, love, be honest, show compassion and persist through life's challenges through my fathers examples. Everyday he gets up and goes to work where he performs manual labor or serves on reserve in the USAF, never complaining or asking why. The adult I've become is owed all to him.

E-Mail “Inbox”

Hey Don,
What are some excuses to tell my school counselor about changing my schedule?

I want two of my classes changed basically because I want to know someone in my lunch hour. I need a better reason. I am hoping she can accommodate this.

I am stressing and have so much anxiety about it. Help me with some good excuses.

Signed,
Jennifer B.

Jennifer, so as not to lie, try to intentionally catch a disease. This can be summed up in two words: Lick things. And remember, if you have trouble getting sick with the licking method, remember: if your tongue doesn't feel like sandpaper, and doesn't turn your finger brown to the touch, you aren't licking enough things.

MAN CAVE – Sports Highlights

Yankees star Alex Rodriguez will be interviewed by Major League Baseball as part of its investigation of his involvement in illegal poker games. Rodriguez also faced questions about his gambling habits in 2005, when the Daily News reported he attended games at an underground poker club in New York.
Former NFL star Bubba Smith, who went from feared defensive end on the field to endearing giant in his successful second career as an actor, died Wednesday. He was 66. Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said Smith was found dead at his Baldwin Hills home. Winter said he didn't know the circumstances or cause of death.
Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson likely will stay overnight at a hospital after suffering a seizure at training camp at Lehigh University, trainer Rick Burkholder said Wednesday. Patterson dropped to the ground between plays during a morning practice, and the player began violently shaking. He was immediately tended to by Burkholder and his staff, with assistance from rookie offensive lineman Danny Watkins, a trained firefighter.

HEALTH MOMENT

Infants raised in a home with moldy areas may be more likely to develop childhood asthma.
A new study shows that infants who lived in moldy homes were nearly three times more likely to have childhood asthma by age 7.
"Early life exposure to mold seems to play a critical role in childhood asthma development," researcher Tina Reponen, PhD, professor of environmental health at the University of Cincinnati, says in a news release.
"This study should motivate expectant parents -- especially if they have a family history of allergy or asthma -- to correct water damage and reduce the mold burden in their homes to protect the respiratory health of their children," Reponen says.
The study also showed that air-conditioning at home slightly reduced the risk of childhood asthma development.
Researchers say about 9% of school-aged children in the U.S. will develop asthma. Symptoms of childhood asthma can range from a nagging cough to episodes of shortness of breath and wheezing that require emergency treatment.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) By definition, we can't ALL be the best driver in the country. Not that anyone will accept that. In a new survey by Allstate Insurance, 64% of Americans rank themselves as excellent or very good drivers. Only 29% think their friends are excellent or very good drivers, and only 8% think people in nearby states are excellent or very good.

#2.) Americans don't take vacations to other countries . . . we work too hard to take time off, and people in other countries smell bad. But if we did, here's where we'd want to go. A new Harris poll found that ITALY is the place where Americans most want to visit. It beat out Great Britain, Australia, Ireland, France and Greece.

#3.) A new study out of the University of Pennsylvania found that happiness changes as you get older. For people in their teens, 20s, and 30s, their main source of happiness comes from excitement and hope for the future. For people in their 40s and up, happiness comes from contentment . . . and from activities like "just sitting around all day."

And I leave you with this thought…

You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.
