Celebrity Spotlight

Kenny Chesney’s Goin’ Coastal tour was recently called “the biggest ticket seller in country music” by Billboard magazine. Here’s a peek into what it takes to make this massive tour a reality! More than 110 people are on tour with Kenny, including crew, drivers, caterers, sound and lighting technicians, and musicians. For stadium shows, the number shoots up to 140. 23 trucks and 10 buses make up Kenny’s fleet. While the trucks barrel on to the next stop, buses will return home between shows along with the band and crew, logging approximately 60,000 miles each tour. The weight of the Goin' Coastal stage set-up comes out to approximately 80,000 pounds. Set-up for the tour is a nearly eight-hour process, with work starting at 8AM, the stage rolled out at 1PM and sound check taking place around 3PM. The stage is framed by "periaktoi" columns, which are three-sided columns influenced by ancient Greek theatre. One side features video tiles, the second features lighting and strobes, and the third is all mirrors.
Kenny says he feels most comfortable when he’s on stage. “That’s where my life is. You know, when I’m up there with my band, and we’re in the zone and playin’ music, and me and the band and the crowd, thousands of people that are in front of us, are all in sync, that’s a very special thing to feel.”

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Ta Tanisha Gambrell
I am 14 years old and I have to say that I have a lot of inspirations, but only one hero, My mom. She's always there to see me through, wipes all my tears away and her smile is amazing; when she smiles she will brighten up anybody's day. But the main reason why she is my hero is because she is the greatest. Yeah there are times when she makes me mad or she does things I don't understand. That's what moms are supposed to do (lol) but I love her.

E-Mail “In” Basket

Good morning everyone, I’m emailing you this morning because I had the most awkward first date pick up last night and I had to share it with you and everyone listening out there so no guys make this mistake again.

To make a long story short I had a first date last night and the guy picked me up driving a motorcycle and didn’t tell me he was going to do so. When he pulled up he handed me a helmet and told me to quote “Hop On”.

I replied “No thanks, let’s reschedule”. Then I walked back into my house and he pulled away. Note to guys: If you drive a motorcycle and are going to pick your date up on it, let her know first. She might not like motorcycles or might want to prepare for such a thing.

Do you guys think I handled this right?

Signed,
Kerry

Sure, right up to the time when you discover he was the man of your dreams and he got hooked by someone who didn’t care about their hair.

HEALTH MOMENT

Women who are taking a baby aspirin or two a day for their heart health may be safeguarding their brain health, too, preliminary research suggests.
In a five-year study of more than 100 older people at similar risk for heart disease, scores on a standardized test that gauges memory and other cognitive skills increased slightly in women who took 75 to 150 milligrams of aspirin a day while dropping in those who didn't take aspirin.
Still, "this does not mean low-dose aspirin will prevent or treat Alzheimer's disease," says Maria Carrillo, PhD, senior director of medical and scientific relations at the Alzheimer’s Association.
"Don't start taking aspirin on your own," she says. Carrillo was not involved with the research, presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2011.
Both cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline are major causes of disability in the elderly. Increasing evidence suggests that inflammation plays a major role in the development of not only heart disease, but of dementia as well.
Aspirin is an anti-inflammatory drug that is widely prescribed to prevent heart disease. But studies looking at whether anti-inflammatory drugs protect brain health have shown conflicting results.
Always check with your doctor before starting any drug. Many people cannot tolerate aspirin, which carries a risk of bleeding.

WHAT’S FOR DINNER

Green Bean and Potato Salad

INGREDIENTS:

1 package frozen French-cut green beans, cooked and drained
4 medium potatoes, boiled, peeled and diced
1 medium onion, chopped
4 6 Tablespoons bacon drippings
3 5 Tablespoons vinegar
Salt and pepper
1/2 to 3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 small can (8 ounce) tiny whole beets or sliced beets (optional)

TO PREPARE:

Mix warm beans, warm potatoes and onion. Add 4 Tablespoons bacon drippings and 3 Tablespoons vinegar. Taste for seasoning. Add salt, pepper, more bacon drippings or vinegar as needed. Let stand at room temperature for about 1 hour. (Bacon fat will congeal if salad is refrigerated too soon.) Then refrigerate salad. Just before serving, mix in mayonnaise. Garnish with drained beets if desired. A good change from potato salad.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) Parents plan to spend less on back-to-school shopping this year than they did last year. Less than half will spend $250 or more, and only one in four will spend over $500. Fewer parents are buying new laptops or phones for their kids, but that might be because they're springing for iPads instead. The only area where spending is up is on back-to-school clothes.

#2.) You probably already knew that public transportation is a germ-infested cesspool. But the DIRTIEST place on a bus or train is the cloth seat. Cloth seats are home to only slightly less bacteria than the floor, and they have 40 times more bacteria than easy-to-clean vinyl seats.

#3.) Remember the hot summers of the '80s and '90s, when you could count on daily stories of senseless gun violence and/or pit bull attacks? Last Friday in Jackson, Mississippi, we got both: Betty Walker was trying to protect her children from a white pit bull named 'Cocaine', and opened fire. At the same time, her husband picked the dog up and threw it. Cocaine was hit, and lived. The husband was hit, and died. The police are considering the death an accident.

And I leave you with this thought…

"Following your feelings will lead you to their source. Only through emotions can you encounter the force field of your own soul."
