Celebrity Spotlight

Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party ranks #4 on Billboard’s list of top-selling albums, so far in 2011. Jason’s album, which includes his hit “Dirt Road Anthem,” has sold 763-thousand copies to date and that’s something Jason doesn’t take lightly. “It’s huge, and I don’t think that’s something that anybody need to take for granted, especially now because you don’t know what’s going to happen in the future…if you’re even gonna be making albums anymore or if it’s all gonna go to singles. I mean, nobody knows right now and so uh…So, the fact that in this day and age, we’re able to go out and sell this many records is just a big thrill for us.” Taylor Swift’s Speak Now, which came in at #13 and Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, at #19 are the only other country albums to make the top-20 list, compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. Adele topped the list at #1 with her album, 21.

COUNTRY NEWS

Looks like we're facing an invasion of the killer bees as Blake Shelton's "Honey Bee" buzzes contentedly at the top of Billboard's country songs chart for the fourth week in a row.

In late June, Taylor Swift played to more than 110,000 fans during two concerts at Gillette Stadium near Boston. Even though it was pouring down rain the second night, she performed the entire show in the rain.

That's admirable but not necessarily wise. Sure, the young superstar loves her fans and doesn't want to let them down. However, nobody's superhuman, not even Taylor Swift.

First off, this has been one of the worst years for sinusitis. That can lead to bronchitis which often leads to pneumonia. And bronchitis is what forced Taylor to cancel a July 2 concert in Louisville, Ky., along with shows Friday (July 8) in Charlotte, N.C., and Saturday and Sunday (July 9-10) in Atlanta. She'll return to the markets later in the year and plans to resume her tour on July 14 in Montreal.

Someone needs to advise Taylor not to sing in the rain until she's drenched. Anytime she gets wet from rain or sweat, she needs to change clothes. She obviously got chilled to the bone performing in the rain.

As summer is upon us various berries are ripening. Soon we’ll have available to us fresh blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and more. Cranberries
Cranberries have emerged as powerful medicine against urinary tract infections. The antioxidant compounds in cranberries inhibit infectious bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. WHAT’S FOR DINNER

Sweet Heart Straws
NOT REALLY FOR DINNER, MORE OF A DESERT

INGREDIENTS:
3/4 teaspoon anise seeds

1/2 cup chocolate chips

2-1/2 Tablespoons sugar

5 or 6 sheets phyllo pastry

6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

TO PREPARE:

Grind the anise seeds in a spice grinder or with a pestle in a mortar. Combine the ground anise seeds, chocolate chips and sugar in a food processor. Process until finely ground.

Cut the pastry sheets crosswise into halves. Cover with plastic wrap and place a damp tea towel over the top. Arrange 1 sheet of the pastry at a time on a work surface with the longest side facing you.

Brush the bottom half with some of the unsalted butter. Spoon a heaping Tablespoon of the chocolate mixture lengthwise across the center of the pastry and fold in half toward you to enclose the chocolate. Brush the top with some of the melted butter.

Starting with the chocolate side, roll the pastry tightly to form a straw. Arrange seam side down on a cookie sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining pastry, remaining butter and chocolate mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 14 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool. Break each straw into halves before serving. Serve with vanilla or coconut ice cream for a real treat.

YIELDS: 20 - 24 straws

BREAK TIME CHATTER

#1.) According to a new survey, America's favorite pizza topping is . . . exactly what you'd think. Pepperoni easily came in first place, beating out three vegetables . . . mushrooms, onions, and peppers. The survey also found that 43% of Americans say the CRUST is the most important part of determining how a pizza tastes, followed by sauce, toppings, then cheese.

#2.) Pets are truly recession-proof. Americans are projected to spend $51 BILLION on their pets this year, up from $48 BILLION last year. And one rising cost is . . . PET FUNERALS. More and more people are holding graveside funerals for their pets . . . which start around $800 and can go up to several thousand, depending on the casket.

#3.) Apparently WAY more people believe in ALIENS than we thought. According to a worldwide poll, one out of FIVE people believe there are aliens on Earth, disguised as people. In the U.S., that's even higher . . . 24% of us, or about one in FOUR, believe there are aliens among us.
I CAN BELIEVE IT< I KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT MUST BE FROM ANOTHER PLANET!

And I leave you with this thought…

"Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again..."
