Celebrity Spotlight

Chris Young is counting down the days to the release of his next CD, Neon, scheduled for release on July 12th. Chris’s new album includes a few romantic songs, including the hit single, “Tomorrow” and “I Can Take It From There,” which he co-wrote. So, what would a first date with Chris Young be like? He says it all starts with dinner. “It basically forces you to sit across the table from the person and have conversation and to me, if I can’t have good conversation with somebody, it’s just not gonna happen. Obviously, taking them somewhere nice, on the guy end of things is probably gonna help your chances a lot more. Nice first date at McDonalds, probably will not lead to a second date. But, somewhere with good steak…good wine…that’s always important to me.” If you pre-order the deluxe version of Chris’s new album on iTunes, you’ll receive two bonus tracks and get immediate access to Neon’s title track.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Ernie Vincent
My hero is my brother! He had to raise me since I was ten years old and he was only 20! He had to put aside his likes and life for me and he never regretted it or complained. He has taught me the values of life and could not be more appreciated. Thank you Ernie for all you do!

HEALTH MOMENT

The number of adults suffering from Type 2 diabetes has more than doubled across the globe in the past 30 years, according to a study published in The Lancet.
The research found that rates of Type 2 diabetes -- which is linked to lifestyle factors like obesity -- increased or remained the same in every part of the world, with 347 million people currently afflicted, compared to 153 million in 1980. One in 10 adults now suffers from the disease, according the study published late Saturday.
Much of the increase was due to longer life expectancy, but rising global obesity rates also contributed to the result, researchers said.
The U.S. had the highest prevalence amongst developed countries, while western Europe's rate remained relatively low. Globally, the Pacific Islands saw the most dramatic rise, with one third of all women in the Marshall Islands now suffering from Type 2 diabetes.
Academics from Imperial College London and Harvard University analyzed data from more than 270 million people worldwide, then used statistical techniques to make a global estimate.
The study's authors urged governments and health bodies to improve diabetes screening programs and to address the underlying causes of the condition.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

A man flying on Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska, was stung by a scorpion. Jeff Ellis was trying to sleep on a red-eye Alaska Airlines flight June 17 when he felt something in his sleeve and tried to brush it away. He said he felt the crawling again, looked down and saw a scorpion. As he grabbed the scorpion with a napkin, it stung him on the elbow. A flight attendant was called when Ellis noticed his elbow burning. He said it felt like a bee sting. The flight originated from Austin, Texas, where Alaska Airlines officials believe the scorpion got on board. An Alaska Airlines spokeswoman said the airline has never had a poisonous creature on one of its flights before.
* The airline immediately charged everyone else a $25 "not being stung by a scorpion" fee.

Melvin Roberts, 58, of Seneca, South Carolina, was struck by lightning for the sixth time in his life on Monday. Roberts was outside trying to cover his lawn mower when he was struck. Neighbors found him lying unconscious in the yard. Roberts carries a scar on his head from the first time he was hit, and scars on his legs from a strike in 2007. That strike left him with nerve damage to his left leg and he spent more than a year in a wheelchair. This time he has a wound on his foot and blisters on his ankles. Roberts said, "I've been married five times and I've been hit by lightning five times. (My wife) says this is the sixth time. I'm not leaving my wife, so I'm going to have to try to do something different."
* On the plus side, if you want toast, just hand him a loaf of bread.

And I leave you with this thought…

"When one has once fully entered the realm of love, the world — no matter how imperfect — becomes rich and beautiful, it consists solely of opportunities for love."
