Celebrity Spotlight
Toby Keith’s newest song, “Made In America” was recorded shortly after one of his most recent USO tours in the Persian Gulf. The character that song celebrates is a true patriot, something we’ll all be celebrating this weekend. “It just, um…talks about being American made to the core and uh, living here in the greatest country in the world where every day is Independence Day.” Toby is scheduled to shoot the music video for “Made In America” during his performance at Summerfest in Milwaukee on Friday. His 2011 Locked & Loaded tour officially kicks off tonight in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Stacey Arnett
He was born in 1924 and grew up during the great depression. He served in WWII and worked until he was in his 80's always wanting to contribute to his community and support his family. Even though he fought for our country only one month ago did he finally claim his VA benefits because he feels it an honor to defend our nation and was owed nothing. We need more like him in these troubled times. He thinks of the greater good before himself and that is where his heart will always be.

HEALTH MOMENT
Two new studies have linked drinking diet soda to poorer health compared with those who don't drink the beverage.
People who said they drank two or more diet sodas a day experienced waist size increases that were six times greater than those of people who didn't drink diet soda, according to researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
A second study that found the sweetener aspartame raised blood sugar levels in diabetes-prone mice.
Data from this and other prospective studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised. They may be free of calories, but not of consequences."
"These results suggest that heavy aspartame exposure might potentially directly contribute to increased blood glucose levels, and thus contribute to the associations observed between diet soda consumption and the risk of diabetes in humans," said study researcher Gabriel Fernandes.
The studies were presented Saturday (June 25) at the meeting of the American Diabetes Association.
Pass it on: A new study links the consumption of diet soda to poorer health.
BREAK TIME CHATTER
1. YOU DO THE MATH... OR NOT
Los Angeles has taken a bold new initiative to severely reduce the amount of assigned student homework.***
***It's not every day that you hear a kid say, "The school board ate my homework."
2. Mel Gibson has reached a divorce deal with wife Robyn Gibson.***
***Seems like this took forever. Both sides had to locate lawyers who weren't busy working for Charlie Sheen, Lindsay or Arnold.
***The joke's on her: her alimony is based on Mel's future earnings.
3. ANOTHER SUMMER, ANOTHER "TRANSFORMERS" MOVIE
Are you going to see the new "Transformers" movie?***
***Yelling, screaming and robots. Sounds like the presidential race.
And I leave you with this thought…
"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."
