Dierks Bentley’s favorite hockey team, the Nashville Predators might be out of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, but that won’t stop the country star from rallying behind his hometown boys and looking forward to next season. Dierks cheered on the “Preds” every step of the way to the playoffs this year, but he admits for players Jordin Tootoo and Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher, he cheers a little bit louder. “I always loved ‘Toots’ cause he goes out there and gives it 110%. It’s not about the hitting and all that stuff, just about the effort he gives when he’s on the ice, he always tries so hard. I think it rubs off on the rest of the team. And Fisher, he’s been great. For a guy like that to be new on the team, and go out and take out the toughest guy, it’s just—they’re all gellin’, man. It’s just fun to watch a team that really believes in themselves.” Dierks wraps up his JÓ“germeister Country Tour with Josh Thompson and Miss Willie Brown this Friday in Norfolk, Virginia.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Mary Ann Miller
Mary Ann is a determined force of love. She knows what she wants and does not stop until she's won. Being the exact opposite of me as I always quit when things get tough. She became my hero when she was in a car accident and broke her ankle in several pieces. As she was a dancer, she was at risk of never dancing again. Of course, with her positive thinking and unbreakable soul, she overcame physical and mental negativity and was dancing in miraculous time. Doctors were astounded. Mary Ann is my hero--my first true hero. She is an unbreakable force, a sincere spirit that has changed my life.

HEALTH MOMENT
Scientists in Canada have found MRSA in bedbugs from three hospital patients who live in a poverty-stricken Vancouver neighborhood.
Although bedbugs are not known to spread disease – they do lead to scratching – which can cause the skin to tear and make people at risk for bacteria, said Dr. Marc Romney, an author on the study.
There’s no evidence of whether or not the bedbugs actually spread the MRSA bacteria or another less dangerous drug-resistant germ, but the study is “an intriguing finding” that needs to be looked at further, said Romney, a microbiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
The hospital is located near the poor downtown neighborhood where the three patients live, and when Romney and his colleagues saw a spike in both bedbugs and MRSA in the area, they decided to see if there was any correlation.
“While the findings of this study are likely to raise concerns about bedbugs and bacterial transmission in impoverished communities, our primary concern for the public at large remains to be the psychological impact bedbugs have on those suffering from infestations,” said Jeffrey White, a research entomologist for Bedbug Central, a website dedicated to information concerning bedbug issues.
“We understand the anxiety this study’s findings may cause amongst the general public, however, the study only confirms what has long been suspected and more research needs to be conducted to understand the value of this information.”
BREAK TIME CHATTER
#1.) Hey, maybe you SHOULD say yes the next time your coworkers invite you to happy hour at T.G.I. Friday's. A new 10-year study found that people who got along well with their coworkers were HEALTHIER and LIVED LONGER than people who had negative or indifferent relationships at work. The main reason: Having support from your coworkers significantly reduces stress.
#2.) No baking soda-and-vinegar volcano here. In Canada, a 16-year-old figured out an actual cure for CYSTIC FIBROSIS for his science fair project. He had a theory that a combination of two drugs could reduce the effects of the disease on people's lungs . . . a local hospital let him use a supercomputer to test it . . . and he was right. His method will now go into actual clinical testing. That’s quite a Science Project!
#3.) According to a new survey, 3% of Americans say they have NO IDEA what Memorial Day is about. They couldn't even look at the name of the holiday and guess that it's a day of memorials. They didn't even have to say that it's in memory of the troops who died for this country . . . and they couldn't even do it. Only 20% said they know "a lot" about Memorial Day. And we wonder why a college graduate can’t get a job!
And I leave you with this thought…
"Love is not a mere sentiment. It is the ultimate truth at the heart of creation. "
