Celebrity Spotlight

Sugarland recently wrapped production on a new video for their song “Tonight.” The smoldering single tells the story of a love found only in the movies, and the duo admits that’s exactly where their inspiration to write it was born. “We, uh, had conversations about some of the films from the 80s. And really about how those soundtracks back then were, you know, they were such a big part of those films. And it seemed like somehow the… the film makers were layering the moment that was happening with the perfect song. You know? And it, it made the moment better. So during our conversations we were saying things like, ‘Do we need to write that?’” The duo’s Jennifer Nettles has also kicked off an online charity auction to benefit Attic Community Playground which fights to keep music education in public school. The auction runs through May 11th on charity buzz dot com. From CMT Radio, I’m Samantha Stephens.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Becca Hill
When Becca Hill, looks at her children, she counts her blessings. Like any mom, she loves her family, but the joys of motherhood are all the more sweet, she says, because for years she wasn’t able to have childrenToday, she and her husband, Craig, are parents of four adopted daughters, and they view their years of infertility as a blessing in disguise. “We wouldn’t have the children that we have in our home now had we not gone down that road,” Becca says. “Had I known the blessing of adoption,” she adds, “I think I would have gone straight to adoption.” She shares that message daily in her work with Charis, an adoption-focused Christian ministry she co-founded to assist and support other adopting parents and to provide assistance to orphans.
The adoption process frequently takes much longer than nine months before parents bring a child home. It can take a big heart, a generous spirit and fierce determination to complete the process.
Becca Hill is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.

HEALTH MOMENT

We have a new sponsor for Health Moment, they are called the Obesity Disease Center.
Face it, we all could lose some pounds, least of all me. I don’t know about you but I am tired of being well fat.

Being obese means having so much body fat that your health is in danger. Having too much body fat can lead to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea, and stroke.
Because of these risks, it is important to lose weight even if you do not feel bad now. It is hard to change eating habits and exercise habits. But you can do it if you make a plan.
So here is the plan, and I am going to participate too.
The first step is to attend the FREE weight loss seminar at the Obesity Disease Center every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
We can go see the new office together on Hadley. The Obesity Disease Center is located at 255 W. Hadley #6 in Las Cruces.
I am interested in a safe, effective, and affordable weight loss, and I think it’s important that we go together and listen to this free weight loss seminar. The folks at the Obesity Disease Center will explain everything and you and I can get started on the road to weight loss. .
The seminar is at 6:00 PM Wednesday night at 255 W. Hadley #6 in Las Cruces.
Join me in the fight to loss weight.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

Mother's Day is less than two weeks away. And to repay your mom for the lifetime of sacrifices she made for you . . . you might as well drop a whopping $25 on a gift she actually wants. In a new survey, the top three most-requested Mother's Day gifts are: A spa day . . . a gift card . . . and something homemade. The least-requested gift is FLOWERS.

We keep going back and forth on whether this is INTRIGUING or DISGUSTING. A new brand of vodka is hitting the market . . . and it's CUPCAKE FLAVORED. There are four different types of Cupcake Vodka: original, lemon chiffon, devil's food cake, and FROSTING. The press release says the vodkas, quote, "deliver a mouth-feel reminiscent of an indulgent delicious treat."

If you want to help your child's future job prospects, the BEST thing you can do is . . . make them READ. A study of more than 20,000 people found that reading a lot as a child increased their chances of having a managerial job by age 33 by 10% to 14%. Reading was even more effective than playing team sports or an instrument.

And I leave you with this thought…

"A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love."
