Celebrity Spotlight

Sara Evans is set to perform “A Little Bit Stronger” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight. She knew the song was something she wanted to record the first time she heard it, but the ease of recording the tune solidified that decision for Sara and her team. “’A Little Bit Stronger’ was just one of those that was so natural and such an easy fit with me and personality, my voice. I don’t know, I mean, I think we maybe did five takes of the song and then we were done.” Sara is part of the opening act for Rascal Flatts’ Flatts Fest which kicks off June 18th. Tickets are on sale now and a complete tour itinerary can be found at CMT.com.

RIDDLE ME THIS

A strange book I saw: Its foreword came after its epilogue, Its end before its introduction,
Its index was in the first half. What could it be?

A dictionary.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Mel Hartman
Mel attaches an axle and set of wooden wheels to a toy truck in the basement of his home assembling one truck after another in hopes of eliciting a smile from another happy child.
Mel begins his day building classic wooden toys—automobiles, locomotives, trucks and baby cradles—for TLC (Tender Loving Care) Toys, the charity he founded in 1990.
"It's easier to put in long hours when you're making toys for kids who might not get one for Christmas," says Hartman, a retired insurance salesman who now plays Santa Claus with the help of a team of hardworking volunteers.
During the last 20 years, TLC Toys has donated more than 200,000 toys to 140 organizations ranging from hospitals to homeless shelters. The toys are distributed to ill, displaced or disadvantaged children across the nation.

Mel Hartman is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.

HEALTH MOMENT

If you want to be happy, elect your boss, take a break from your mobile phone and give to charity -- that's the advice from a new global movement for happiness whose members include the Dalai Lama. Action for Happiness was co-founded by Richard Layard, an economics professor at the London School of Economics, and is supported by more than 4,500 members from 68 countries and organizations such as the British Psychological Society. The movement, set up last year and inaugurated on Tuesday, rejects individualism and the pursuit of material wealth and provides alternative practical tips for a happier life, which it says are based on scientific evidence.
One of the less obvious recommendations came from Henry Stewart, head of training organization Happy Ltd, who asked an audience of about 200 people at the launch in London: "How would you feel if you could choose your manager?" The response from the packed-out hall was, presumably happy, laughter.
The group's website www.actionforhappiness.org -- which Layard said was receiving 4,000 hits per minute on Tuesday -- advises happiness-seekers to help others, exercise and pursue goals, as well as meditate, take a break from technology and organize a street party.
In further support of its arguments, the movement says that surveys of Britons and Americans show they are no more content now than in the 1950s despite substantial economic progress. "The main external factor affecting a person's happiness is the quality of their relationships, at home, at work and in the community. And the main internal factor is their underlying mental health," it said in a statement.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

For years and years there have been surveys asking women to name the most important quality they look for in a guy. And every time, "sense of humor" wins. Which, of course, is just a blatant lie. --Under that logic, you know who has the best sense of humor in the world? Super rich guys. --WELL . . . it seems that women are getting closer and closer to admitting that, yeah, it's great if you're funny, but they're willing to look past a horrible personality if you've got money. --They won't FULLY admit it yet. But a new survey puts them closer than ever. Researchers in Cologne, Germany found that women now say the number one quality a guy has to have is . . . he can't be POORER than her. --That's playing the semantics game, but the message is clear. More and more women are working and making better money than ever before. So while they don't necessarily NEED a rich guy, they don't want to support a poor guy.
--The most popular answer women gave for WHY that's the key quality? They said that too much of a difference in incomes leads to the most stress and confrontation in a relationship.
Hey I gotta couple of bucks, what will that get me.

And I leave you with this thought.

"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future."
