Celebrity Spotlight

Taylor Swift shared her latest single, “Mean” with millions on TV this past Sunday at the ACM Awards. The song, which she wrote about a bad review that she read, has touched listeners even more than she could’ve imagined. “Getting letters, and getting e-mails, and getting messages on Twitter and Facebook from the fans saying what that song means to them. I never would’ve imagined it would have that many different meanings to different people when I wrote the song.” “Mean” is the third single from Taylor’s Speak Now album. The ACM Entertainer of the Year will kick off the U.S. leg of her Speak Now World Tour on May 27th in Omaha, Nebraska.

HEALTH MOMENT

Scientists have identified a gene that appears to play a role in regulating how much alcohol people drink and say their finding could help the search for more effective treatments for alcoholism and binge drinking.
In a study of more than 47,000 people, an international team of scientists found that people who have a rarer version of a gene called AUTS2 drink on average 5 percent less alcohol than people with the more common version.
The AUTS2 gene, also known as called "autism susceptibility candidate 2" has previously been linked to autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but its actual function is not clear, the researchers said.
"Of course there are a lot of factors that affect how much alcohol a person drinks, but we know...that genes play an important role," said Paul Elliott of Imperial College London, who was part of the team conducting the study.
"The difference this particular gene makes is only small, but by finding it we've opened up a new area of research."
According to the World Health Organization, harmful use of alcohol results in 2.5 million deaths a year globally.
In another part of the study using flies, the researchers found that blocking the effect of a fruit fly version of the same gene made the flies less sensitive to alcohol. This suggests AUTS2 seems to be involved in regulation of alcohol intake in a number of different species, they said

BREAK TIME CHATTER

Unless you live a pure, wholesome, borderline-Amish life, it's best if you make your Facebook profile private. ESPECIALLY from the people who sign your paycheck.

--And don't worry that your boss will be UPSET if you're not Facebook friends with him. Or her. Because THEY don't really want YOU seeing their private life either.

--A new survey found 43% of workers said they feel uncomfortable being connected to their boss on Facebook. Bosses were even LESS into it . . . 47% of bosses said they were uncomfortable being friends with their employees.

--As for whether you should be Facebook friends with your co-workers . . . 26% of people said they're even uncomfortable with THAT.

And I leave you with this thought.

"Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart."
