Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party album is number one this week on Billboard’s Country Albums chart knocking Taylor Swift from the spot. Jason is proud of the success his latest project has had considering the state of the music business right now. “Somebody will come out and sell two million copies of a record and then the next album they come out and they sell two hundred thousand. You know, it’s like… So for us, I mean to be able to consistently kinda go out there and, and keep kinda hittin’ that platinum mark to me is, is the thing that I feel like is really the coolest.” Jason also holds the top spot on Billboards Digital Country chart for his duet with Kelly Clarkson, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Lois Nielsen
With practiced fingers, Lois feeds the tattered edge of a U.S. flag into her sewing machine. Stars and stripes emerge from the other side as good as new—ready to fly again over the graves of soldiers at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Each Friday for the last 10 years, Lois has packed up her sewing machine in nearby Sharon Township and driven to the cemetery to volunteer her time. Dozens of flags await her attention. She’s repaired more than 1,300 flags over the years—enough to inspire a fellow volunteer to nickname her “Betsy” after America’s most famous flag seamstress, Betsy Ross. One of the nation’s 130 national cemeteries, Western Reserve has conducted about 13,000 burials since opening in 2000—sometimes up to 10 a day.
Its signature Avenue of Flags features 50 U.S. flags that line the main entrance leading to a central plaza. Exposure to rain, sun and the steady winds that blow across the picturesque hilltop cemetery weakens flag fabric and unravels hems, requiring periodic mending.
“It’s a privilege to be able to do this—a bit of a way to pay back for what we have,” Lois says. “It enriches your life to get out and do something for someone else that you’re not getting paid for,” she says.
Lois Nielsen is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.
This Is Nuts
The attorney ranking website Awo.com reports that divorces and question calls to divorce lawyers both jump by an average of about 40 percent around Valentine's Day. One New Jersey divorce lawyer guessed that it's due to a combination of winter cabin fever, couples waiting until after the holidays, and people waiting until they know what their spouse's bonus and income situation will be in the New Year.

HEALTH MOMENT
The maker of the Plan B morning-after pill is gearing up for another round with the Food and Drug Administration over whether the emergency contraceptive can be sold without a prescription for younger women and girls.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd earlier this week said it had asked the FDA for permission to sell the drug without any age limits, the latest salvo in an decade-long battle over the pill. Only those 17 and older can buy it now without a doctor's order.
It is also the latest political challenge for the agency, which was widely criticized for its handling of the pill under the Bush Administration.
Plan B, first approved in 1999, contains a higher dose of the hormone progestin that has been widely used in regular birth control pills for decades. It had been sold in a two-pill version taken within 72 hours that now faces generic rivals.
BREAK TIME CHATTER
17-year-old Domonique Ramirez is suing to keep her crown as Miss San Antonio. Pageant officials want to give it to the runner-up, claiming Ramirez shows up late to events and eats too many tacos. They accuse her of insubordination and gaining excessive weight, and say she should be in training for the Miss Texas pageant like an elite athlete. Ramirez says she's willing to lose the crown, but she wants her name cleared so her future isn't ruined by slanderous allegations. She says she's never been more than 10 minutes late anywhere, and she's 5-foot-8, 129 pounds and a size 2.
* You'd think that for the Miss Texas Pageant, eating lots of tacos would be considered
a talent.
And I leave you with this thought.
"Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present."
