Celebrity Spotlight

There’s only four more days until Valentine’s Day and Faith Hill wants to remind people flowers are always a nice gift. She’s teamed up with the floral company Teleflora for her own line of arrangements that are inspired by her mother’s love of gardening. “She could take a, just a stem and just grow this incredible bouquet of gorgeous flowers all over our yard. And I, unfortunately, did not get that green thumb.” So will Faith get some flowers from Tim McGraw on Monday? You bet! She says he’s great about giving her flowers on special days. (Audio) “He is. And, and days that are unexpected as well. I love getting flowers, for all of you out there listening. [Laughs]” In addition to Faith’s floral collection, she also has a new fragrance called True available as well.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Ann Sakowicz

Ann Sakowicz, opens the front door of her Sedona, Ariz., home, a blur of black, white and tan greyhounds come running. Since 1992, Ann has kept more than 40 greyhounds in her home, finding them adoptive families and transitioning them from professional runners to family pets. Sakowicz, who operates Greyhound Rescue of the Red Rocks, gets the dogs from Phoenix and Tucson organizations that annually accept more than 1,300 injured or unsuccessful dog track racers. Every greyhound that is transferred and adopted is one less likely to be euthanized. But finding loving homes for the dogs is only part of Sakowicz’ mission. While the part-time real estate agent searches for adoptive families, she teaches greyhounds how to survive in a house. Because these 2- to 5-year-old dogs spend much of their life in a crate, racing only a few minutes a day, they have to be trained to cope with domestic challenges such as stairs, tile floors, doggie doors, glass, leashes and solitude.
As a condition of adoption, owners are required to have a fenced backyard and a leash to walk the dog outside. They also must agree to make the dog a house pet and keep in contact with rescue organizations.
Ann Sakowicz is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.

This Is Nuts

Lindsay Lohan was back in court Wednesday, inappropriately attired in
a skintight white mini-dress to plead not guilty to felony grand theft for allegedly walking out of a jewelry store wearing a $2500 necklace she hadn't paid for. She claims it was on loan to her, and she wanted to take a lie detector test to prove it. But prosecutors rejected that, saying the test is unreliable and they had enough evidence to prove theft. The judge set bail at $40,000, $20K each for the theft charge and the probation violation that could bring her a combined 3-1/2 years in jail. He warned her that just one slip-up will send her to jail, adding, "Don't press your luck."

* So it probably wasn't the best idea for her to walk out of court with his gavel.

HEALTH MOMENT

There may be an upside to annoying, and sometimes dangerous, allergies according to a new study that suggests a host of allergies may protect against some types of brain tumors, Science News reported.
A team of researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago found, in surveys of hospital patients, that patients with a history of allergies were less likely to be diagnosed with brain cancer. Of the 344 patients with brain cancer involved in the survey of 1,000 hospital patients, only about 35 percent had been diagnosed with an allergy in their lifetime. Of the cancer-free respondents in the survey, nearly half had been diagnosed with allergies.
Brain Cancer is not the only cancer that is negatively correlated with allergies, such as hay fever, peanut and pet allergies. People with allergies appear to have lower rates of pancreatic and colon cancer.
Human immune systems react to when foreign cells, such as cancer cells, develop in the body. Scientists suspect allergy sufferers, because they have overactive immune systems, mount better responses to foreign cells.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

First Lady Michelle Obama spilled some personal info about her family
to the "Today" show. She said that her daughters don't have Facebook pages because that's not appropriate for young girls. She insists that Barack has kicked smoking and hasn't had a cigarette in a year. And she denied rumors that he dyes his hair. She says he's "pretty gray," and photos that make his hair appear black are just a trick of the light.

* He did have a Facebook page, but 62 percent of his followers unfriended him after
Obamacare passed.

And I leave you with this thought.

"When you really want change, reinforcement will come from your heart."
