Celebrity Spotlight

Country legend Waylon Jennings’ legacy lives on in the new tribute The Music Inside: A Collaboration Dedicated to Waylon Jennings. The first volume in the star-studded series made its debut Tuesday, after two and a half years in the studio. Country singer Jessi Colter is thrilled with the results and thankful for the new generation of artists that came together to honor her late husband. “Everyone who’s on this record—they’re unique. Like Jamey is such a great songwriter and has that great country quality. Trace Adkins has kept his value, you know. I mean Randy Houser, obviously. He’s totally unique.” The album also features Alabama, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon’s son Shooter Jennings as they pay tribute to the pioneer of outlaw country.

Our Hometown Hero(’s) Today is/are Phyllis Franzoy

The Las Cruses International Mariachi Conference brings together the most talented singers, musicians and dancers – and matches them with hundreds of students hungry to learn the cultural art forms of Mariachi music and Folkloric Dance. The person responsible for initiating the Conference is Phyllis Franzoy. It was back in 1993 when Phyllis pitched the idea to Bishop Ricardo Ramirez of the Diocese of Las Cruces Foundation. Since then, the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference has trained nearly 13,000 students in the art of Mariachi and benefited more than 30 charitable organizations in southern New Mexico. So for all she has done creating and sustaining the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference, the Mayor presented Phyllis with the Mayor’s Distinguished Service Award for the first quarter of 2011!
Phyllis Franzoy is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.

This Is Nuts

Tuesday, Los Angeles prosecutors announced that they will
charge Lindsay Lohan with one count of felony grand theft for allegedly stealing a $2500 necklace from a jewelry store. It could get her up to three years in state prison, not the revolving door L.A. jail for celebrities. Lindsay's attorney said they will fight the charge vigorously, and RadarOnline quoted an inside source as saying they'll call two witnesses, a friend of Lindsay's and her assistant, who'll say she didn't steal it. Lindsay herself reportedly is saying privately, "I'm pleading 'not guilty' because I'M NOT!"

* That's right: she's not "not guilty!"

HEALTH MOMENT

Feeding toddlers processed foods may lower their future IQ, according to a U.K. study published Monday. Researchers who monitored thousands of children in southwest England also found that a diet rich in vitamins could make young children more clever later in life.
A nutritious diet could produce a "reasonable difference" in IQ scores over time. Parents needed to realize that healthy eating could have an impact on more than just a child's weight.
The message is to encourage parents to give fresh food as much as they can. The researchers found that changes to children's eating habits after the age of 3 made no difference to their later IQ. A possible explanation for this is that the brain grows at its fastest rate during the first three years of life.
The study involved 14,000 people born in western England in 1991 and 1992 whose health and well-being were monitored at the ages of 3, 4, 7 and 8.
The research was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

First Lady Michelle Obama is defending her Super Bowl party spread.
After campaigning hard for nutritious food in schools and restaurants, the Obamas served bratwurst, kielbasa, cheeseburgers, deep-dish pizza, wings and chip dip. Mrs. Obama said she never said people should give up junk food, just don't eat it all the time. She said her "Let's Move" anti-obesity campaign isn't about deprivation, it's about "moderation."

* Like with Barack's smoking.

And I leave you with this thought.

"Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you."
