MAKE YOU LAUGH
For many years, it's been traditional for the two parties in Congress to sit in segregated blocks during Presidents' State of the Union speeches, so that his supporters and all jump up and applaud every 10 seconds while the other party sits glowering. But in the current spirit of "overcoming partisan divisions," several members of both parties are pushing a proposal to mix it up the seating so that Democrats and Republicans are sitting amongst each other in a "show of unity."
* Now when someone yells, "You lie!," Obama won't be able to tell if it was a Republican or a Democrat.

This Is Nuts
At a news conference Monday, former Swiss bank employee Rudolph Elmer handed over two CDs to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. He claims the discs contain details of the secret Swiss bank accounts of over 2,000 wealthy people and corporations, including "pillars of the community" like business leaders, arts celebrities and politicians, as well as organized crime bosses, all trying to evade taxes. Elmer said he's doing it to educate the public on what he thinks is wrong with the banking system. Assange said his site would examine the CDs, and if they check out, they could start releasing the data onto the Internet within a couple of weeks.
* Apparently, Swiss banks have more holes than their cheese.
HEALTH MOMENT
Scientists have found a protein that acts as a "master switch" to determine whether certain white blood cells will boost or dampen inflammation, a finding that may help the search for new drugs for rheumatoid arthritis.
Many patients with rheumatoid arthritis are treated with a class of drugs known as TNF inhibitors made by various drug company’s.
But around 30 percent of patients don't respond to anti-TNF drugs, so experts say there is an urgent need to develop more widely effective treatment options.
In this study, scientists from Imperial College in London found that a protein called IRF5 acts as a molecular switch that controls whether certain white blood cells will promote or inhibit inflammation.
In a report of their findings they said the results suggest that blocking the production of IRF5 might be an effective way of treating a wide range of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, lupus and multiple sclerosis.
They also suggest that boosting IRF5 levels might help treat people whose immune systems are weak, compromised or damaged.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting around 1 percent of the world's population and arises when the immune system mistakenly attacks joints all over the body. As well as joints, it may also affect the skin, heart, lungs, kidneys and blood vessels. Many sufferers get deformed hands and feet, which hamper movement and ability to function.
BREAK TIME CHATTER
Forget all those stereotypes about attractive models and actors being stupid. The London School of Economics tested physically attractive people in the US and UK and found that they typically have IQs that are 14 points above average. The researchers say the "dumb blonde" stereotype is being bred into extinction because attractive people tend to attract mates who are both good-looking and successful, which means their kids inherit both good looks and brains. This is building a stronger genetic link between intelligence and beauty with each new generation.
* Someday, there will be brilliant scientists who look like fashion models, just like on "CSI!"
And I leave you with this thought.
"No man can tell what the future may bring forth, and small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. "
