MAKE YOU LAUGH

Geoscientists from Scotland's University of St. Andrews say they have evidence that will disprove the "Snowball Earth" theory, the idea that 600 million years ago, the planet was completely encased in ice a kilometer thick. They say striations in rocks in Scotland show that even during the coldest period, the ocean water wasn't frozen, which means that some parts of the Earth always remained unfrozen.
* Other scientists disagree, and now they're having a Snowball fight.

RIDDLE ME THIS

It goes up, but at the same time goes down. Up toward the sky, and down toward the ground. It's present tense and past tense too, come for a ride, just me and you. What is it?

It's a See-Saw.

This Is Nuts

The British company BioCote did swab tests on various public places around London and discovered that ATMs have many of the same disease-causing bacteria that are found on public toilet seats. Their survey found that Britons thought of public toilets as carrying the largest health risk and ATM keypads as being among the cleanest public objects. But they said that's ironic because tests confirmed that some ATM keypads were actually filthier than public toilets.
* And imagine how filthy the money is! No wonder people launder it!

HEALTH MOMENT

Spending lots of free time glued to the TV or computer screen can hurt your heart and shorten your life, no matter how much exercise you get when you’re not riding the couch, a new study suggests.
People who spent at least four hours per day watching TV, playing video games, or using a computer for fun were more than twice as likely as those who kept their recreational “screen time” under two hours to experience a heart attack, stroke, or other serious cardiovascular problem, the study found. Couch potatoes were also about 50% more likely to die of any cause during the four-year study.
The link between screen time and heart problems barely changed when the researchers factored in the amount of moderate-to-vigorous exercise the study participants did, suggesting that the health benefits of exercise don’t cancel out all that time in front of the tube or computer.
The study doesn’t prove that watching TV or playing computer games is inherently unhealthy. The real culprit may be what people tend to do during those activities: sit.
Why is sitting harmful? It’s not entirely clear, but animal studies have shown that prolonged sitting slows down the action of an enzyme that breaks down fats in the blood, such as cholesterol and triglycerides. When the enzyme activity slows, levels of those substances climb.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

One-time "Star Wars" sex symbol Carrie Fisher has signed to be the new spokesperson for Jenny Craig and has already lost 12 pounds. She said it hurt when "Star Wars" fans would say on the Internet that Carrie Fisher "used to be so hot and now she looks like Elton John." She said she'd gotten so fat, they had to "make a new alphabet for my bra size."
• If she put on the gold bikini now, there would be a disturbance in the Force!

And I leave you with this thought.

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live."
