Celebrity Spotlight

BLAKE SHELTON HAPPY FOR SHARED SUCCESS WITH FIANCE. The start of the New Year has people talking about the upcoming wedding between Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. The two won the CMA Awards for Female and Male artists of the year in 2010 which hasn't been done since Tim McGraw and Faith Hill accomplished that feat in 2003 making them country's "it" couple. Now it's Blake and Miranda's turn and they are enjoying the ride. "I'm sure Tim and Faith never set out to be the country couple. I think what they probably found out is that they are attracted to each other and they met because of what they do. And that's kind of Miranda and I's situation. It's unique and it's odd that our careers are kind of peaking at the same time." Rumor has it Blake and Miranda will wed this May in East Texas.

This Is Nuts

Much of the US is in the grip of winter weather today. While the Northeast is still digging out from under its recent blizzards, a blast of snow and ice moved across the South Sunday, from Texas to the Carolinas. Hundreds of flights in the South have been canceled, businesses and schools planned to shut down, and officials mobilized fleets of snow and salt trucks to clear the roads.
* Meanwhile in New York, the snowplow drivers will be finishing their poker game and getting to work any day now.

HEALTH MOMENT

Fluoride in drinking water — credited with dramatically cutting cavities and tooth decay — may now be too much of a good thing. It's causing spots on some kids' teeth.
A reported increase in the spotting problem is one reason the federal government will announce Friday it plans to lower the recommended limit for fluoride in water supplies — the first such change in nearly 50 years.
About 2 out of 5 adolescents have tooth streaking or spottiness because of too much fluoride, a surprising government study found recently. In some extreme cases, teeth can even be pitted by the mineral — though many cases are so mild only dentists notice it.
Health officials note that most communities have fluoride in their water supplies, and toothpaste has it too. Some kids are even given fluoride supplements
. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is announcing a proposal to change the recommended fluoride level to 0.7 milligrams per liter of water. And the Environmental Protection Agency will review whether the maximum cutoff of 4 milligrams per liter is too high.
The standard since 1962 has been a range of 0.7 to 1.2 milligrams per liter.
Many health leaders continue to be worried about cavities, particularly among poor families with kids who eat a lot of sweets but don't get much dental care. The American Public Health Association in November adopted a resolution calling for coordinated programs to be established at public health, dental and medical clinics to offer fluoride varnish — a highly concentrated lacquer painted on teeth to prevent cavities.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

"Sarah Palin's Alaska" will end with the two-hour first season finale that included her family panning for gold, kayaking, blueberry-picking and moose-kissing, which involves putting a banana in your mouth and leaning toward a moose. TMZ.com says the ratings were great for cable, and TLC desperately wanted to renew it, but Palin chose not to. Pundits are debating what it means: whether she's just made enough money, she doesn't want to expose her family to reality TV anymore, or she's ending her TV commitments so she can run for President in 2012.
* Unfortunately, she's alienated her core supporters by endorsing interspecies kissing.

And I leave you with this thought.

"Be silent, if you choose; but when it is necessary, speak - and speak in such a way that people will remember it."
