Celebrity Spotlight

KELLIE PICKLER IS MARRIED! Kellie Pickler is officially a newlywed! She tied the knot with songwriter Kyle Jacobs New Years’ Day in an intimate ceremony on a private island in the Caribbean. It's not surprising Kellie chose to say I Do on the beach considering the couple got engaged while walking on the beach and she's a big fan of the ocean. “I love the beaches. I love hot weather. I am not a fan of snow. I’m not a fan of cold weather at all. I’d much rather be on the beach, in the ocean, or in a pool than anywhere. So, that would be ideal. Like, wouldn’t it be so cool to just be able to live on a beach somewhere and have no care in the world…all ya gotta do is tan and swim.” With a new husband and home in Nashville, Kelly admits she’s grown up quite a bit since her early days on the scene, and feels more confident than ever. “I know who I am better now, than I what I did when I was, you know, just turned nineteen and moved to Nashville, so I have a better sense of who I am, and everyday I’m learning more and more about what I like and what I don’t like…I’ve learned a lot.” Kellie kicks-off a series of spring performances January 29th.

MAKE YOU LAUGH

Thursday, National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson released her annual report to Congress. She told them tax reform should be their #1 priority. She said complying with the tax code consumes 6.1 billion hours a year, the equivalent of three million full time workers, and the IRS is increasingly using unproductive hardcore enforcement tactics on financially struggling Americans. She also announced a new online "suggestion box" at TaxpayerAdvocate.irs.gov for taxpayers to suggest what could be done with the tax code.
* I have a suggestion of what the IRS could do with the tax code, but it's way too big to fit up there.

This Is Nuts

Wednesday, Nancy Pelosi finally handed over her gavel as Speaker of the House to Republican John Boehner. But only after making one of the longest goodbye speeches on record, listing virtually every Democratic accomplishment of the last two years.
* Her plan to thwart the Republicans was to just keep talking until 2012.

HEALTH MOMENT

While unchecked cholesterol may spell trouble for adults, the picture is less clear for kids, whose cholesterol levels often change as they grow up.
In a study out this week, Australian researchers say certain lifestyle choices could help explain why some kids with troubling cholesterol levels stay at risk and others don't.
They found youths with high-risk cholesterol whose waistlines grew more, or who began or continued to smoke, were more likely to stay at risk as adults than those who added fewer pounds or dropped the cigarettes.
"This is useful from a clinical perspective," said Dr. Stephen R. Daniels, pediatrician-in-chief at Denver Children's Hospital, who was not involved in the study. "These are things we should be able to improve, like cigarette smoking and physical activity."
The importance of cholesterol levels in children isn't clear, but in adults high levels of LDL or "bad" cholesterol, as well as low levels of HDL or "good" cholesterol, up the risk of heart disease, a major killer in Western countries.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

Yesterday, Republicans took over the House and increased their numbers in the Senate, but Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid downplayed all the anti-government sentiment. Reid said that people don't like a lot of politics in government, but whether they know it or not, "the American people love government."
* Yeah, every time I pay my taxes, I think, "We need MORE of this!"

And I leave you with this thought.
"He who has a mind to meddle must have a heart to help."
