Celebrity Spotlight

RASCAL FLATTS SHARE PASSION OF MUSIC WITH STUDENTS. Before Rascal Flatts became one of country music’s hottest bands, they were hitting high notes in a different group: the marching band. The super group has joined forces with the GRAMMY Foundation’s “Give Harmony” program to help keep music education in high schools across the country. For Joe Don Rooney, his love of music came from both school and home. “My father was very influential as well. He’s always been a guitar player and singer, and so I was just lucky to be around a lot of people who cared, and who are passionate about music, and who were patient with their time. You put those combinations together, and kids can do wonderful things with that, you know?” Rascal Flatts will wrap up their Nothing Like This tour this month. The group has also announced the brand-new Flatts Fest, a music event that will kick off in July.

MAKE YOU LAUGH

The preacher came to call on me the other day. He said that at my age I should be thinking about the hereafter. I told him I do - all the time. No matter where I am - in the parlor, upstairs in the kitchen, or down in the basement - I ask myself, "Now, what am I here after?"

RIDDLE ME THIS

I have four wings, but cannot fly, I never laugh and never cry; On the same spot I'm always found, toiling away with little sound. What am I?

A Windmill.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

HOMETOWN HERO’S are people who serve other people, their community, and take pride in honoring, restoring, preserving, or celebrating an aspect of American hometown life, be it their work, passion, or pastime. Thus, the truest meaning of “HOMETOWN HERO ” is people protecting, defending, caring for or serving others. With that as the background, WHO is a “HOMETOWN HERO ” in your life or the life of others ? E-mail me, dondiego@kgrt.com and let me know who they are. Some of the greatest “HOMETOWN HERO’S ” in our lives are unknown to the outside world and garner very little, if any, attention.

Our Hometown Hero’s Today is/are Andrew Wechsler
As a Mayors Top Teen these young men and women must have over come a significant obstacle in their life, show scholastic achievement, perform community service, and be a positive role model.

Andrew Wechsler is/are our Hometown Hero Today and we salute you.

This Is Nuts

Yesterday in Sacramento, Arnold Schwarzenegger stepped down as Jerry Brown was sworn in again as governor of California. To emphasize the "painful choices" the legislature will have to make in cutting spending to close the $29 billion budget gap, his official inaugural lunch was hot dogs.
I don't think the California legislators get it; they kept asking what wine goes best with hot dogs.

HEALTH MOMENT

A blood test so sensitive that it can spot a single cancer cell lurking among a billion healthy ones is moving one step closer to being available at your doctor's office.
Boston scientists who invented the test and health care giant Johnson & Johnson will announce that they are joining forces to bring it to market. Four big cancer centers also will start studies using the experimental test this year.
Stray cancer cells in the blood mean that a tumor has spread or is likely to, many doctors believe. A test that can capture such cells has the potential to transform care for many types of cancer, especially breast, prostate, colon and lung cancers.
Ultimately, the test may offer a way to screen for cancer besides the mammograms, colonoscopies and other less-than-ideal methods used now.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

Lindsay Lohan finished her court-ordered rehab stay and left the Betty Ford Center Monday. Her mother had claimed that Lindsay planned to stay for another week of treatment and classes because she was so serious about getting clean and sober. But that wasn't true: she left as soon as she was able and didn't reveal where she was going next.
• Wherever it is, the next stop after that will probably be the Betty Ford Center again.

And I leave you with this thought.

"If you accept the expectations of others, especially negative ones, then you never will change the outcome."
