Celebrity Spotlight

JASON ALDEAN’S PLATINUM SUCCESS. Jason Aldean celebrated the success of his third album Wide Open reaching Platinum status yesterday in Nashville. Even with the economy the way it is right now Jason felt like it was important to slow down for a second and spend a little money thanking the people who helped him reach his latest success. (Cut #4) “Not only for me as an artist, but for the people that worked to make that happen. But I mean, kind of let them know that is was successful ya know, and that you appreciate what they’ve done. And like I said these days there few and far between so it’s kind of nice when you get to have one.” Jason hits the road headlining arenas this weekend and will join Brooks & Dunn on the final tour later this year.

The workshop will feature a continental breakfast, box lunches, a keynote speaker and three breakout sessions. There will be no cost for teachers to attend this workshop, however registration is required and space is limited.

HOMETOWN HERO’S

HOMETOWN HERO’S are people who serve other people, their community, and take pride in honoring, restoring, preserving, or celebrating an aspect of American hometown life, be it their work, passion, or pastime.
Thus, the truest meaning of “HOMETOWN HERO ” is people protecting, defending, caring for or serving others.
With that as the background, WHO is a “HOMETOWN HERO ” in your life or the life of others ? Some of the greatest “HOMETOWN HERO’S ” in our lives are unknown to the outside world and garner very little, if any, attention.
Jacklyn Marie Scarborough Is Our Hometown Hero Today
Jacklyn Marie Scarborough teaches sixth grade at Mesquite Elementary School. She received her bachelor's degree in from New Mexico State University. In May, she's scheduled to graduate from NMSU with a masters in curriculum and instruction. She is a sponsor for Mesquite Elementary Student Council, and helps out with Battle of the Books, Renaissance Program and Ballet Folklorico. What is your philosophy as a teacher? I feel that there is a unique quality within each and every one of my students. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged in authentic and meaningful activities that spark their interest. The true beauty of education is that not only do students learn from me, but I learn from them, as well.

This Is Nuts

the Supreme Court struck down most of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law as unconstitutional. It banned any group, whether a union or a corporation or a group of private citizens, from buying and airing political ads within 60 days of an election. It was supposed to get the money out of politics and reduce negative and misleading commercials. But opponents said it silenced criticism and gave control of political speech to incumbents and big media companies. The Court ruled that it violated the First Amendment right to free speech. So this year, the media will likely bring a barrage of billions of dollars worth of nasty political ads from all sides.

HEALTH MOMENT

Razor burns are a common problem faced by both men and women. Razor burn is usually an irritation of the skin caused by shaving with a razor. Razor burns also include nicks and cuts that occur during shaving. Razor bumps are caused by ingrown hair. It may appear as a mild rash, which disappears after a few hours or days depending upon the seriousness of the condition. Many a times razor burns may be accompanied by 'razor bumps', in which case the area around the shaved hair gets a raised welt or infected pustule.

Applying too much pressure while shaving can cause a razor burn owing to friction.
Insufficient skin lubrication is another cause.
Shaving in the direction opposite to hair growth is also a common cause for razor burns.
Excessive use of after-shaves and colognes can compound the problem of razor burns by causing dryness.

Stop shaving
The best way to deal with razor burns is to stop shaving. Give your skin some rest and simply let your hair grow back for a while.

Use a soothing after-shave balm if you are already suffering from razor burns.
For Burning Sensation
Dissolve two uncoated aspirins in a teaspoon of warm water and mix into a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area. Wash it after sometime with lukewarm water. This will take care of the burning sensation.
For Razor Burns
An effective razor burn mask can be made by mashing a couple of strawberries with a 1 spoon of sour cream. Apply this mixture after shaving and leave it for 10 minutes. Do this twice a week for fresh, razor burn free skin. Witch hazel, mild salicylic acid solutions and Aloe Vera gel are known to provide relief for razor burns.
Consume foods rich in Vitamin C
Although there are no specifications regarding diets to be followed for razor burns, consuming foods rich in Vitamin C should help in restoring the skin quickly.

BREAK TIME CHATTER

Republican-turned-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter is in trouble with women. He went on a Philadelphia radio station to debate conservative Rep. Michele Bachmann. When he decided she was talking too long, he cut her off by saying, I’m going to treat you like a lady, now act like one.
* He’s only been a Democrat for a few months, but he’s already been hanging out with Al Franken too long.

And I leave you with this thought.
"Where the heart lies, let the brain lie also."
